Badger Bowl
Madison, Wisconsin

Even though the weather couldn't be used as an indicator, the calendar told us it was New Year's Eve, and with that, our long-anticipated NYE bash at the Badger Bowl. Your good friends in LUBE have been very busy over the last few months preparing for this event. We wanted to usher out 2006 and welcome in 2007 with some fresh, new things.

After investing a lot of time and energy in to a virtual smorgasbord of options, including keeping what we had, the band decided on a different logo to be the new face of LUBE. The old logo served us well for a long time, but with a variety of changes over the years, we wanted a logo to convey who we are now, and we feel this new logo does just that. See for yourselves!

To go with our new logo, we got in touch with our artistic sides and created four new shirts and two new stickers! These items are H-O-T! These will sell very fast as evidenced by last night's debut, so be sure to get one soon. You don't want to be the only kid on your block not wearing one.

Our production crew went and outdid themselves once again. For those of you who have seen us before, you understand that our sound and light production is second-to-none. They too got artsy and created four light pillars for the stage, and the effect was nothing short of incredible! Based on what we heard from all of you, they were a big hit and helped take the show to yet another level. And just why do we continually go the extra mile to give you the best show we can? Because you deserve it!

We didn't forget about the music in the whirlwind of all this other stuff and unleashed a couple of new tunes as well. In an homage to the weird guys who wore red flower pots on their heads, we crafted up a version of "Whip It" by Devo. Then we meshed some of the Dazz Band original and the SR-71 cover of "Let It Whip" into a LUBEified rendition. Both songs are infectious and were thoroughly enjoyed by the masses at the Badger Bowl.

Most of you are familiar with the fact that LUBE was giving away a real electric guitar to a lucky fan at this show. People have been signing up at each show for months now, and there we A LOT of entries. Some people hadn't seen us prior to last night and signed up after arriving at the Bowl. With the assistance of Shocker Dan from madisonhotspots.com, two names were drawn for a free t-shirt from the new crop. Sadly, we lost the paper with the name of one of the initial victors, but she was tall and cute and sassy...a typical LUBIE! The other t-shirt winner was Barb Schoknecht. Next, Jackie Buechner won some free drinks courtesy of Badger Bowl. All the names went back into the drum before we drew the winner of the guitar. Shocker Dan thoroughly mixed everything up with his spirited spinning of the drum and then drew the lucky winner of the LUBE-autographed Dean electric guitar, and the winner was...Barb Schoknecht! What are the odds of the same name being drawn twice out of about a thousand entries?!? Barb was very excited and said she was going to give the guitar to her son. Thanks to everyone who signed up and played along. Maybe next year will be your year!

So that rounds out 2006 for LUBE. It was a most excellent year for us, but we look forward to even bigger and better things ahead in '07! We hope you and your loved ones had a safe and happy holiday season and wish you nothing but the best in the coming year. You can feel free to kick that year off properly by joining LUBE as we make our debut at the world-renown Club Tavern in Middleton on Saturday Jan. 13. This is going to be such a cool show! We understand that NYE brings about a host of party options and you can't be everywhere at once. So for those of you who weren't able to join us, be sure to come out to The Club and see the new logo, get one of the new shirts, maybe a new sticker for your hoopty, and get your January rockin'!

Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

With most jobs, when you feel like crap you can call in sick and get the day off. The music biz isn't most jobs, and when you have a signed contract to perform, few things other than death will get you out of it. So with a nasty head cold dragging me down, I put on a happy face and trudged my way through what turned out to be a great show at the WSG.

There were lots of things happening Saturday night at the LUBE gig. We donned Santa hats to get into the festive spirit. Several people were celebrating birthdays...Ashley, Joe, and Misti for sure, and there may have been more. The meds I'm taking are making everything kinda fuzzy. One thing I do know is that Buzz got Ashley up on stage for 22 inspiring birthday spankings that left her with a sore tushie according to the comment on our MySpace page. Probably the biggest news of the evening was the announcement that our friends Rowan and Mike became engaged. Bravo! We look forward to one hell of a celebratory party! It's nice to see good things happen to good people, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness.

The music, well, it spoke for itself. After a tamed-down set list for a private party the night before, we put all of the dirty/nasty/heavy/greasy tunes back in and played a true LUBE show. Based on the fact we again played to a capacity crowd at the WSG, I would have to say the show was well received! Vicki & Carla and everyone there treats us very well and we look forward to some more great shows there in '07.

That being said, this was the last show before New Year's @ Badger Bowl. Have I ever mentioned that this is going to be THE premiere NYE party in Madison? It will RULE! We are giving away an autographed Dean electric guitar! We will be unveiling a new logo! A new banner! New t-shirts! New stickers! All these new things on New Year's Eve! There's also a rumor about doing a live-feed into Times Square when the ball drops but those details are still being negotiated with the network. At any rate, LUBE @ the Badger Bowl will be the best party in town. BB is doing their part by keeping prices down. Cover will be $10, but compared to some other places that are charging $20 and more, it is a bargain. Lots of people have said they're coming, so get there early and claim your turf! We can't wait to kick off what will be a fantastic 2007 with you...see ya!

The Dry Bean
Madison, Wisconsin

HOLY YOU KNOW WHAT! That's what kept running through my mind Saturday night. LUBE @ The Bean 12/9/06 has got to be the show of the year so far! It was CRAZY! There are a few more opportunities to top it, but it's going to take a considerable effort, let me tell you.

People, people, people! It was a sea of bodies wherever I looked. The windows were covered in condensation from the body heat generated by the mass of dancers. It was hot and sweaty...in a good way. And you know what? We blew it up!

There was a strong contingency at The Bean to celebrate Scotty Too Hottie's (S2H) birthday. They started prepartying at his house before the show and were tuned in and ready to rock when they hit the door right as we kicked it off with "Jesus Or A Gun." Scotty and his girlfriend, Katie (formerly of Wicked Lily), have been staunch supporters of LUBE, so we prepared a special little treat in honor of his birthday. We learned a song called "Scotty Doesn't Know" which was featured in the movie "Eurotrip." We had Scotty & Katie join us on stage and the crowd went nuts! Everyone was singing along... Scotty doesn't know, Scotty doesn't know... it kicked ass! We love getting our crowd involved in the music, and "Scotty Doesn't Know" is destined to be a fan favorite for a long time. We also played "Next 2 You" by Buckcherry for the first time, and it was good and greasy, just the way you like it.

The laundry list of attendees is about as extensive as I can ever recall. I had a monumental list of people we were going to call out by name but it would be impossible to include everyone we knew. I mean, I can name at least 34 people from my place of employment alone (including significant others) and representatives from a minimum of six different local bands. To try and list everyone would fill an entire page and probably cause you to lose interest. Believe me when I say that we LUBE boys saw you, know who you are, and sincerely thank you for making this one of our best shows ever!

Pay attention now for this last little blurb. You have TWO remaining opportunities to catch LUBE again this calendar year. We'll be playing a private party on Dec. 15, but will bring our three-ring circus to the Windsor Street Grille in Sun Prairie the following night, Saturday Dec. 16. I have heard talk that there will be lots of people there, so arrive early and claim your turf. Then we have a couple of weeks off until the big granddaddy of them all...New Year's Eve! We will be at the Badger Bowl Sunday 12/31 for what will be the best show in town! Cover is only going to be $10. Other places are charging $20+, and you know those shows won't party as hard as we will! It will also mark a historical moment for LUBE as we will be unveiling a new logo, new t-shirts, and hopefully some other swag...a new look for a new year! In addition, we will be drawing a winning name for the LUBE-autographed Dean guitar that you've been signing up for over the past few months. It's a pretty sweet unit and will allow you to develop the inner Eddie Van Halen that has been living inside you since 1978. Like I said, this will be T-H-E party on NYE, so get there early and be ready to go because we are going to blow the roof off the Bowl!

Thanks again to everyone who was at The Bean and a special wink to the waitress who caught me in my drawers in the unofficial "dressing room." That's right, I saw you looking! Get your rest this week and we'll see you Saturday at the WSG!

Riley Tavern
Verona, Wisconsin

Anyone who has been to the Riley Tavern knows it is about as far away from a cavernous venue as it could be. That being said, the cozy confines add to the charm of the place. It's a pain in the drain loading & unloading equipment there, but we're willing to do it for you, the people who take time from their lives to spend an evening with LUBE. That and Murph pays us. It's a win/win situation!

Prior to show time, it was a bit chilly in the "stage" area. I had my fan set up but was wondering if I was really going to need it. Thankfully I decided to leave it in place. As soon as we started playing I noticed that it was a sea of people as far back as I could see. From the stage to the door it was packed! My trusty old fan came in quite handy as it clearly got warm in there! Not so warm that anyone took off their clothes, but warm nonetheless. Add 10 moving lights and all the other heat-producing electronics we crammed in that tight little space and it made you feel like you were in Florida.

Lots of people "on the scene" turned up at The Riley to see us... Rob Wise was celebrating his birthday there and brought about 20 people with him which we really appreciate (what better birthday gift for yourself than the gift of live audio-visual entertainment we always say), Mike from Pine came with Rowan & Missy, Penny, Dan, & Kevin of MadisonHotSpots.com, sound guru Frank Fridono, BoB Rocks drummer Bones, Gordy, Tina, & their group, Tammy & Jenny from Wicked Lily, The Big Dog, and lots of hip-shaking young ladies who danced their butts off. Special thanks to Penny for the tasty Stoli & 7 w/a lime and Murph for the j-bombs...yummy!

We're now closing in on the end of 2006. We have 4 shows in December... The Bean Saturday 12/9, a private party Friday 12/15, Windsor Street Grille Saturday 12/16, and the big daddy of them all, Badger Bowl on NYE, Sunday 12/31. This means that you will have a grand total of 3 more chances to sign up to win the autographed Dean guitar we'll be giving away NYE. The guitar giveaway, however, is not the only thing happening that night. Because you repeatedly ask for it, for one night we'll resurrect "Voodoo" by Godsmack. Don't miss it! No one knows when (or IF) you'll ever hear us play it again. Also...(drum roll, please)...we will be unveiling a new LUBE logo! The new logo will be accompanied by a new banner, new t-shirts, and whatever other swag we can get our hands on. It is going to 100% kick-ass fun, and you know you want to be the first kid on your block to have a new LUBE shirt! Badger Bowl is still working out some details, but let me assure, you, there will be no better NYE party...anywhere! Make your plans today!

Badger Bowl
Madison, Wisconsin

I guess it's getting to be the time of the year when you really can't count on the weather to be what you want it to be. Truthfully, I really don't mind winter. I just want winter to be on MY terms, and those terms do not allow for the first wet, accumulating snow to be on a gig night. There's nothing like standing in ankle-deep slop loading gear!

While the psychology of driving home through bad weather with poor road conditions could cause one to stay home rather than going out, there were plenty of people who proved that this did not have to be the case! Badger Bowl greeted a nice crowd of LUBE-ready revelers Friday night. And though it may have taken us a little longer to get there, we came ready to rock.

As I mentioned previously, we have a couple of new songs we're working on. They were close but not quite ready for this show, and rather than give you a sub-par effort, we sat on them for now. When will you hear them? I don't know. You won't hear them Saturday at Rile Tavern. You might hear them in early December. We may keep them under wraps until NYE. Heck, we may have a 6-pack of new tunes by then! We'll just have to see, won't we?

Lots of good people came out to "show the love" last night. Birthdays were celebrated LUBE-style by Dana, Trista, and Becca. No one received an on-stage spanking though...WTF?!? Some of the peeps in the crowd were Tammy & Jenny from Wicked Lily, Katie formerly of Wicked Lily, Stevie B & Hit Man from Pink Houses, Becca Rae from Wild Heart, Scott Schroedl from Heartbreaker, Michael, Brian, Tracy, Beege & Cindy, S2H, Nate, Mike, Dave, Josh & Pam, Jen, Tom, Jim, John, Ruth, Nicki, Lisa, Hot Dog, Stephanie, Michelle, TV personalities Tara Arnold and Marc Lovicott and my neighbor Shannon. This list could go on forever...but not this time! Thanks for toughing it out through the weather and spending your Friday night with LUBE!

We are making a return trip to the Riley Tavern tomorrow night, 9:30pm start as per usual. Murph and everyone at The Riley made us feel like family last time, and we are bound & determined to give them another kick-ass effort! The Riley is a super fun bar with killer burgers, so come out early, break bread with your favorite band, and then enjoy the show. It's yet another opportunity to sign up for the Dean guitar we'll be giving away on NYE too!

Blue Chalk Club
Middleton, Wisconsin

OK boys and girls, if you've been paying attention to the activities of the hoodlums known as LUBE, you will recognize that this was our second show at Blue Chalk Club in about a month's time. Usually we don't book the same venue that close together, but circumstances dictated this to be the case. I don't know what I was expecting, but a packed parking lot and upstairs bar area at 6:15pm was NOT it! People came early and were ready to party, and so party we did.

Now, some of you may have heard rumors indicating that I, your good friend on the bass guitar, was feeling the effects of a few adult-type beverages. While I was jovial and thoroughly enjoying myself, the fact remains that these accusations are unsubstantiated. I will give credit to the bar staff at BCC for healthy pours and very tasty, refreshing drinks. Take that as you will.

We didn't have any new songs to reveal (there are a few in the works, though) but the absolutely killer crowd didn't seem to mind. A hearty and sincere thank you goes out to all the people who packed the BCC. We've been treated well there and you supporting not just LUBE but the BCC as well is only going to make the local scene better.

This is where I usually regale you with stories of how the night went, things like Buzz donning Lindsey's coat during "Shake Your Bon Bon," Katie getting her 22 birthday spankings on stage, Dan bartering for an extra egg with his breakfast after the show, you know the routine. Well, I'm not going to do that this time. Please refer to the pictures page and see the evidence for yourself... it was a kick-ass time! But what I will do is try and thank as many people as I can possibly remember, especially in light of the heavy pours noted above. And if I forget to list you, it only means we haven't officially met (Come introduce yourselves and I'll make sure you get some props. Showing up with a complimentary beverage for me & Jeff will definitely get you acknowledged. Our side of the stage is the coolest, you know.) OR I simply have spaced it out. So... here goes. Mad kudos to Jackie & her friend who's name I never remember, Rowan, Missy, Tracy & Traci, Penny, Dan, Kevin, Alison, Jenn, Katie, Terri, Kathy, Gordy & Tina & their friends who's names I have again forgotten, Stephanie, Michelle, Jenny from Wicked Lily, Jen from Mighty Electric, Becca Rae from Wild Heart, Dave, Kim & Matt, Lindsey, Kristin, Buzz's sisters, Natasha & Brian, Kim (aka Cracky) & Aaron, Ashley, Joe G (who was wearing the colors) and last but not least Peggy. Peggy is from the infamous "Siemo" clan of Port Edwards, my home town, and it was a nice surprise to meet her. How did I do?

Well, this has dragged on long enough. It usually does. What can I say, I'm loquacious. Hopefully everyone didn't party themselves out because we have a full weekend of rock n our horizon. Friday night we are at Badger Bowl, one of our all-time favorite places and the site of what will be the greatest NYE show in town, followed by the incomparable, the one and only Riley Tavern. This will be our second appearance at The Riley, and if you want the chance to see LUBE up close and personal, this is THE place to do it! Come on out and show Murph what a bunch of crazies you LUBE fans are!

Have a prosperous week everyone and we'll see you soon!

The Dry Bean
Madison, Wisconsin

Time after time when I write the news you read that shows at The Bean are crazy, over-the-top affairs. It may begin to sound redundant but the fact remains...it's 100% true! I don't lie. This show, like all the others, was killer!

Saturday was a beautiful day in all respects...weather, Badger sports, and of course, a LUBE show. High off a thrashing of the Golden Rodents on the gridiron and the Fighting Sues on the ice, people thronged to The Bean to get their rock on. We were excited to be back at The Bean, one of our favorite places to play, and just had the feeling that it was going to be a special night.

From the opening chord of "Jesus Or A Gun" through the final notes of the "Love Gun" ending on "Rock & Roll All Night," the entire bar, not just the dance floor, was packed! It was awesome! Everyone was hot and sweaty from dancing, we were working our butts off to give them a good show, and the end result was magic. It was also the first time that you could sign up to win an electric guitar that we will be giving away on New Year's Eve at the Badger Bowl. We will be redoing our e-mail list, and by signing up at each LUBE gig between now and NYE, you will be entered into the drawing for the guitar. You must be present to win on NYE and there will be some other surprises too, so make your plans to be there NOW!

There were so many familiar faces in the crowd, musicians and LUBIES alike. It'll be hard to remember everyone, so if I forget you, it's merely the result of dead brain cells. We saw you, we talked to you, and we know who you are. But here goes...Jenny, Tammy, and alumni member Katie of Wicked Lily, Stevie B, Hit Man, and Joyce from Pink Houses, Craig, Maryellen, and Dia from SuperTuesday, Michael & Brian, Lisa, Ryan (thanks for the pix), Hot Dog, Trista & Jim, Jessi & Jeremy & Miranda, Todd, Kim & Matt, my old high school/college gang of Dirk & Wendy, Jeff & Anne Marie, Mark & Wendy, Swanny, Big Dog, Jeff & Sara, and Tim & Andi (who traveled from Missouri), Meagan, Tracy, and Kenny Lingus, Lori & Brent, the Parrot Bay girls, and undoubtedly many more. To those of you who were LUBE virgins prior to Saturday, it was good for us too! Special thanks goes out to Michelle P for the contact...we'll be in touch soon! And as always, the bartenders and security staff at The Bean treat us like family and we definitely want to say thanks for that. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the hardest working production crew in Madison as well. Dan, Chad, and Curt bust their tails to make each and every LUBE show the best it can be. If you had a great time at our show, don't hesitate to thank these guys too.

Needing a few weeks to recover from such a show, our next gig takes us back to The Blue Chalk Club in Middleton on November 3. Don't forget that each LUBE show provides you an opportunity to sign up for the electric guitar we'll be giving away at Badger Bowl on NYE. It's even been signed by the band. That probably lowers it's value but clearly adds to the fun! NYE will be here before you know it so start planning your night with LUBE today! See you @ BCC 11/3!

Level 8 Bar
Evansville, Wisconsin

It had been some time since we last played Level 8 in Evansville. Sara and her staff have always treated us like kings and Saturday was no exception. We arrived to find the dressing room area completed and fully available. There's a shower, private restroom, and a lounge area with overstuffed couches and chairs. Nice! There wasn't much time for sitting and relaxing though. We had a rock show to play!

A pretty decent crowd arrived fashionably late but was ready to party. I think word is getting out in Evansville that not only is Level 8 the place to be but also that LUBE puts on a great show. With that in mind, we hit them with everything we had and they ate it up! Once we got the people moving they danced all night, yelling for more at the end. And are we going to disappoint a bunch of groveling music fans?!? That's an emphatic no!

There were two birthdays celebrated at the LUBE gig. Chris from Restless brought a big group of people down from the Mad Town to party (See? It's not that far of a drive!). Chris is a great guy and one helluva musician, and it's always a pleasure to see him and his wife Vicki. Now that I'm typing this I can't remember the name of the birthday girl... oh snap! Buzz even brought her on stage for her obligatory spankings! I'm sorry. It must be because of the apple pie shots Sara was pouring for us.

Thank you for a good time Evansville! It was a good time! Speaking of good times, there will be another opportunity to party with LUBE in the very near future... next Saturday! We will be at The Bean on 10/14. Every time we play here it gets crazier and crazier. You know what to do... be there!

Blue Chalk Club
Middleton, Wisconsin

Having never before set foot into The Blue Chalk Club (BCC), I expected to be impressed based on what other people had told me. Well, they were right! BCC is a very nice place, probably too nice for a bunch of dirty, stinky band guys like us. But they agreed to host LUBE for a gig, and we held up our end of the bargain.

The band area at BCC is upstairs and thanks to an elevator, load-in/out isn't too bad. The stage area is quite spacious and allowed Chad to put lots of lights to use for a killer light show. After a little diddling Dan had the sound dialed in and we were off to the races! We opened the show with a new tune, "Jesus Or A Gun" by Fuel. Years ago we had flirted with this song but it never came to be. Now just happened to be the time, and it's a great, kick-ass attention getter to start the night. We threw in one more new one, our little take off on Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake. I can hear some of you groaning at the mere thought of such a song, but we rock it up and it definitely got some asses shaking!

Our first experience at BCC turned out very well. We had a decent crowd, ate good food, and were treated nicely by the friendly and attentive staff. Special kudos go out to Frank who made sure we received our complimentary drink tickets. You rule, dude! Thanks to everyone who came out too! We'll be back at BCC on Friday November 3, a rather short turn around but that's how the schedules worked out. Come out and support this new club!

Don't forget that tomorrow we are returning to Level 8 in Evansville, the site of last year's NYE debauchery. Sara and her crew treat us very well and they have a HUGE stage for us to play on. Chad is drooling over what is bound to be his best light show ever, so don't miss it! It's a 20 minute drive from the Beltline, so quite whining about how far it is... it's actually quite close! Next weekend we are back at The Bean, on a home football Saturday against the lowly Golden Rodents, and we are anticipating an amazing crowd. You know what LUBE shows are like there... over the top! See you then!

Windsor Street Grille
Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

You know, after a long week of work at "real jobs" and a boss-ass show the night before at Badger Bowl, it would have been very easy for us to come staggering in to the Windsor Street Grille complaining of how tired we were. We never want to be that kind of band. If it means OD'ing on energy drinks, Starbucks, whatever, LUBE is going to do it so that YOU, the good people who love live music, get your money's worth.

If you've never been to the WSG, it is an intimate space. They can still accommodate a couple hundred people, and the few shows we've played there have been excellent. The Sun Prairie market was screaming for a live venue and WSG has done a nice job of filling that void. If rumor is true, there will be a forthcoming facelift to the WSG, relocation of the stage, updating of the power, etc., all in an effort to make it a better place for you to see live music. When you stop by the WSG, let them know you are in full support of this!

It is a very cool feeling to be on stage performing music. It's even better when the faces in the crowd are smiling and dancing and having a great time. Even better yet is when people come to see you play two nights in a row. That, my friends, is dedication! When I was out seeing bands regularly, I usually saw different shows Friday and Saturday nights. Sure, I had my favorites but didn't want to burn out on them, you know? But for those of you who came out and saw both of our shows this past weekend, we offer sincere thanks and appreciation!

In the end it turned out to be a great weekend. Friday, as noted above, was solid. Saturday was just as good. The house lights didn't fall on Steve, I didn't drop anything on my toe (Ed. note: The crew did roll a case over it though), Jeff & Nick didn't break any strings, our production crew left with the same amount of gear as they started with, and Buzz... well, he did bash himself in the mouth with his microphone a few times, but a little blood just made it more "rock & roll!"

We have a little down time until our next scheduled gig. The Blue Chalk Club in Middleton, a cool new venue, will be hosting us on Friday October 6. LUBE fans are the best, and we want you to come out in force to show this new joint what a LUBE gig is all about! Plus I have personal knowledge of some of the things we will be working on between now and then, at least one song no one else would even dare to try, and I KNOW you don't want to miss it! See you @ The Blue Chalk Club 10/6!

Badger Bowl
Madison, Wisconsin

Without consulting a calendar, I cannot tell you how long it's been since LUBE played the Badger Bowl, but it seems like a long time ago. Following a summer of no cover charge, we were the first band to bring things back to "normal" (i.e. a cover) at the Bowl. People must not have minded because there was a great crowd on hand!

One thing people consistently comment to us about is the variety of music LUBE plays. We work very hard to come up with sets that aren't direct copies of what every other band in the area plays. Naturally, there is bound to be some overlap because when a song is hot, everyone wants to jump on it. So, not only do we play music from a variety of genres, but we are always working on "new" material to add to our set list. For this weekend we dug up two tunes that have been off the radar for a while yet still kick ass.

One of the songs we added was "The Bad Touch" by The Bloodhound Gang. There may be some of you scratching your head asking, "What the hell is that?!?" The Bloodhound Gang has sort of a cult following, and "The Bad Touch" is more widely known as "The Discovery Channel" song. You know, "You & me baby ain't nothing but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel..." There are a lot of words to this song but they are hilarious! Buzz definitely gets a workout trying to get them all in without breathing. Not only that, but your boy here gets to drop in a little bass solo. That in and of itself makes the song utterly cool!

The other "new" tune we did was "Head Like A Hole" by Nine Inch Nails. This is an industrial classic! If ever there was a song that made you want to give the finger to everybody, this is it! Jeff heard a cover of it by AFI and played it for us at a rehearsal. We were immediately hooked! But in true LUBE fashion, we didn't copy either version but rather blended some elements from both and added our own twists to make the song sound like us. It f-ing rocks, people! You can bang your head AND dance to it all at the same time! Our friends from Hotter Than Karl used to play this one but it had fallen off the radar...until now!

There were a ton of familiar faces in the crowd Friday...too many to accurately list! We know who you are and we appreciate you supporting us! To those of you who lost their LUBE virginity, don't be afraid to come back for more! Speaking of that, it's never too early to start planning for New Year's Eve. And where will LUBE be performing? That's right... Badger Bowl! This show is going to be over-the-top! You will be rocked right out of your pants! There will be give-aways, studly guys, hot chicks, and the best rock show in Madison! So go mark it down right now...flip the pages of the calendar on your fridge, write in LUBE @ Badger Bowl on 12/31, and tell all your friends to do the same. This LUBE show will be THE place to ring in 2007!

Riley Tavern
Verona, Wisconsin

Finally! It took us a while but we finally found a spot in the schedule to hook up with Murph and rock the Riley Tavern. The Riley is legendary for it's good times and small stage but we knew we could fit in there and deliver our show in the only way we know how...LUBE style!

Chad managed to get about 50 more lights hooked up than any of us thought possible. When I first saw all the current-drawing devices I thought for sure we'd pop a breaker before the night was done. We didn't, and this is a tip of the cap to our unflappable production crew of Dan, Chad & Curt. These guys rule!

Looking for a breath of fresh air in the set list, we took a few songs out and resurrected a couple from the RIP list. "Harder To Breathe" opened the show and one of the first songs we ever learned, "Train, Train," returned as well. Mix in a couple of location changes and it was a whole new LUBE gig!

While the Riley is a little tight, it didn't stop us from rocking hard. Jeff dropped some excellent improvisational lyrics into "Wild Thing," and had I been drinking at that moment, beer undoubtedly would have come out my nose. That boy is funny! Buzz had his always crazy antics in full force and visited the ladies room in mid-song more than once. And due to space limitations, rather than bringing our world-famous Gimme Gimme Girls "on stage," he took it to the dance floor and surrounded himself with GGG's. It was a touching moment.

Thanks to Murph and just about everyone who came out to the Riley. It's a great bar, the food is awesome, and we were treated very well. We'll be back there again in November, I think, and we want it splitting at the seams!

LUBE is gearing up for another KILLER weekend of rock shows! Friday 9/8 we are returning to the Badger Bowl followed by Saturday 9/9 at the Windsor Street Grill in Sun Prairie. History has proven these to be excellent venues for shows and we expect nothing but the same. We are working on a couple more tunes we know will get your asses shaking, so make sure you're there!

Tallard's Station
Middleton, Wisconsin

Hey! A new venue to conquer! We had never played at Tallard's Station prior to Saturday. Thanks to the incomparable skills of our production crew, the small set-up area and limited power situation were essentially non-issues and the show went quite smoothly. That doesn't mean there weren't some sacrifices along the way, such as a non-existent light show, but as they say, the show must go on!

We had a great time partying with the Middleton High School Class of '91. They held their 15-year class reunion at Tallard's and stayed to enjoy the show. Jeff's wife Nicki, an alum of the aformentioned class of '91, was instrumental in hooking us up with this particular gig, and we'd like to thank her for everything she did to make this a success! It turned out to be a very fun night and we were able to introduce ourselves to a new bunch of people. Hopefully they enjoyed themselves and will come out to see us again.

I would love to be able to name all of the "regulars" who came out to see us, but frankly, I'm just not that smart. I can recall Becca Rae & some friends, "Mr. Everywhere" Todd, Joan, two of the Wicked Lily ladies (Jenny & Tammy (and mom Mabel)), Matt & Kim... but beyond that I'm stumped. It was a long, 22+ hour day for me Saturday, so when you tie that into my general non-smartness, you get a fuzzy memories. I can say with certainty, however, that we all had a blast!

Now... the next LUBE gig is scheduled for Friday, September 1st at none other than The Riley Tavern. For those who have never been there, The Riley oozes character and is just one of those places you can't help but have a good time at. One thing it is not is overly large, and that will make for a very intimate setting, if you know what I'm saying. Get there and get there early! This is going to be a kick-ass show and we want to show Murph & his crew exactly what a LUBE gig is all about! Make your plans NOW and we'll see you there!

Utica Festival
Utica, Wisconsin

Back outside for another festival. This time in the small quaint unincorporated town of Utica. When pulling up it was apparent that this was quite the event in the area. There were cars parked everywhere. We would like to think that they were there early to ensure a good spot for the LUBE show but that wasn't the case. There was a full on Tractor Pull going on and these things were REALLY, REALLY LOUD. So loud in fact that when we were doing sound check you could hear them over the music.

The lovely ladies that make up Wicked Lily opened the night with a blistering hour-long set. They did a tremendous job especially since they had to compete with the loud Tractor pulls going on close by. The crowd began to really fill in during their set. By the time we started the crowd had swelled to be pretty sizeable. For this show we played 2 long sets with one break instead of the typical 3 set's and 2 break format we normally do. The first set timed out at 1 hour 45 minutes! Whew, that was long and tiring! Especially since we only stopped like 3 times the entire set. For those of you that have seen us you know that we like to keep the music going constantly. Usually the sets are about an hour, so you can imagine doing an extra 45 minutes and doing the same amount of stops as normal. I think Steve's arms were going to fall off after the first set.

The second set was gravy, as it was only 1 hour 30 minutes long. What a piece of cake that was. It actually would have been a little shorter but our sound guy Dan informed us through our in-ear monitors that we had a half hour left to play and only 5 songs left on the set list. So, without hesitation we pulled out about five audibles on the spot to add into the set. This was all without stopping to discuss which songs. We all just kind of looked at each other to figure out which song to play next. Kind of like a game of Charades. I think it would be cool to do an entire set like that. It would definitely keep us on our toes on the communication part.

Dan, Chad, and Curt once again did a TREMENDOUS job on Sound & Lighting Production as always. Thanks guys!

Some of the people in attendance included; Heidi from Pink Houses, Ju Ju, Shadman, KY, Hotdog, Supergirl, Angie, Hailey, Kurt, Bobby, Kristin, Brittany, Tiffany, DJ, Kara, Dave, Alison, Jessica and many more!

All in all Utica Fest was a good time! We were treated very well. Thanks to Lynn, Mikey, and the rest of the organization for being so accommodating. Our next show is this Saturday, August 12th at Tallards Station. This will be our first time at Tallards so let's pack the place. This will be an earlier than normal start time so all of you that use the excuse that we play too late this is your chance! We play from 8:30 - 12:30 so get there early!

The Dry Bean
Madison, Wisconsin

It's been a few months since we've played an indoor gig so we weren't really sure what to expect. Usually during the summer months the crowds at indoor shows are a little more sparse. Luckily that wasn't the case this time around. For an indoor summertime show the crowd at the Bean was quite impressive. There were A LOT of people we normally see at our shows that came out once again to sing, dance, and have fun.

There were a bunch of musicians in the house including Scott Schroedl from Heartbreaker who got up and played drums on "All The Small Things". Jen from Mighty Electric came and helped out on "Are You Gonna Be My Girl". Also in attendance were Mike & Justin from Johnny Rocker/PINE, Rebecca and Jeff from Wild Heart, Dia from SuperTuesday, Jeff from B4 The Storm, Frank and Nick from MSB. Clownboy was also shakin' his groove thing.

There were also a lot of the LUBE faithful in attendance as well. Jeremy, Jessi, and Miranda were there front and center. I think from now on we'll just reserve that spot for them. Rowan and Missy were also sharing the love at the front of the stage. Also, Matt, Kim, Dana, Supercam Dave, Josh, Rick D, Daphne, Melissa, Melyssa, Jason, Shadman, KY, Aaron, Courtney, Ann, Jenny, Katie, Mary, Kristin, Maria, Bobby, Todd and Lovely Lisa just to name a few. This list could go on and on and we would still miss a bunch of people. Go look at the pictures to see who was there.

I think we set a record for the number of "Gimme Gimme Girls". The stage was a little cramped up there but it also was probably one of the best performances by "Gimme Gimme Girls" to date. Included in this particular crowd of "Gimme Gimme Girls" were Rebecca from Wild Heart, Dia from SuperTuesday, and Jen from Mighty Electric. I think Jen was even throwing down on the congas. Another Fun Night at The Bean. We'll be back at the Bean in October!

Quaker Steak & Lube Bike Night
Middleton, Wisconsin

For those of you not in the know, Quaker Steak & Lube's Bike night each Wednesday has become quite the event. Hundreds of incredible motorcycles roll in to see, be seen, and hang out & party with those of us who drive mundane automobiles. Many different vendors also come in and set up shop. Last year, scheduling didn't work out for us and we didn't have the opportunity to play a Bike Night. This year afforded us ONE opportunity...July 26. With a week-long forecast for rain, it appeared as though we were doomed. With a unanticipated bout of good fortune, the skies cleared and the hot sun came out, apparently wanting LUBE's party at The Lube to go as planned!

Things started off a bit shaky. The semi towing the flatbed used as a stage at QSL tipped on the way, rendering it unusable. A flatbed tow truck was substituted however it simply was not large enough to accommodate us and all of our gear. It's amazing how much space we take up! So in the end, Steve was given his own personal stage/drum riser and was perched atop the truck while the rest of us were at ground level with the partying folks...and party we did!

Unless you live in a cave, you are well aware of the fact it was HOT and STEAMY yesterday! We were soaking wet by the time we finished setting up. Once hundreds of people started drinking and dancing, it got even hotter! The "stage" area actually felt cool compared to where all the partiers were. In addition, it was Nuts and Bolts night at QSL. Women were given nuts, men were given bolts, and if you found your match, you both received a free drink. One can only assume there was some hooking up going on!

Early in the second set we debuted one new tune, the naughty but very catchy "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry. Buzz did a nice job of PG-13'ing it for the family friendly crowd, and people seemed to dig it. There were some "crazy bitches" doing their thang up front, if ya know what I'm sayin'! In the end, the wide variety of music LUBE plays won over the crowd and the staff at QSL and we all had a great time. We've been invited back...we'll see what the schedule will permit.

Thank you to everyone who came out on a Wednesday to party with us! To play to a packed, fun-loving crowd made taking time off from work to put on the show well worth it. We'd also like to thank Sharer Cycle Center, as they were the sponsor for this particular Bike Night. They displayed some beautiful bikes and were impressed with what they heard, and we appreciate their kind words. As summer beings to wind down, we find ourselves starting to get back into bar gigs and we kick off that schedule with The Dry Bean Friday 8/4. Like Bike Night is an event, LUBE shows at The Bean are an EVENT! All I have to say is you don't want to miss it! And for those of you wanting to hit another beer tent before the summer actually passes us by, we are at Utica Fest on Saturday 8/5 with the lovely ladies of Wicked Lily. This will be HUGE! Wicked Lily starts at 8:30pm, we come on at 9:45pm and play until 1-1:30am. I have heard nothing but good things about Utica Fest so make it a point to be there. See ya!

News: Tuesday, July 4th, 2006, Pardeeville 4th of July Festival, Pardeeville, Wisconsin

The nice folks of Pardeeville invited us back again this year to play during their 4th of July Celebration. We played at Chandler Park last year but this year we played on the night of the fireworks and were greeted by a much bigger and more enthusiastic crowd! There was definitely some partying going on in Pardeeville!

Dan, Chad, and Curt caught naps following our gig in Columbus the night before and were back at it by about 8:00 AM Tuesday. These guys are hard core! You may have already forgotten but it was very warm, humid, sweaty & stinky by the end of the night Monday, and they were facing another 18-20 hour day. Our production guys are the best and did a great job as always! They ran production for a full-days worth of entertainment, started off by Cookee & Dennis at 11:00 AM. I wasn't there to hear them perform but was told they were very good, and these were reputable sources. They were followed by local country favorites Wild Heart who played from 4Wild Heart sounds awesome, puts on a stellar show and are very nice people as well. It was a pleasure sharing a stage with them and they had the crowd dancing and partying before we even plugged in!

By about 8:45 PM we were slathering the pavilion with frothy, LUBE-styled rock. Right out of the gate people were dancing and having a blast! Speaking of blasts, following an abbreviated first set we were all treated to Pardeeville's fireworks display, and I have to say it was impressive. A small town doesn't mean a small show! We were very close to where the fireworks were being launched and the pavilion we played in was rained on by falling debris. We also gained a new appreciation for the percussiveness of the blasts. All the meters on the sound board were jumping with each explosion! There were some faces I remembered from last year back partying with us as well as LUBE regulars Jackie, Jenny, Rowan, Missy, and Mike (of Pine and Johnny Rocker & the High Rollers renown). Warthog Gunny also took in his first LUBE gig.

The beautiful day that was 7/4 finally wound down about 12:35am and we packed up and headed for home. It was a full & busy few days but we had a great time. Hopefully you took advantage of the discounted $4.00 chicken dinners and had fun rocking and partying with LUBE. Don't forget our next show...it's going to kick ass! LUBE is at the Lube (Quaker Steak & Lube) for their infamous Bike Night on Wednesday July 26. It's an early start time, 5:30 PM to be exact, and if you haven't attended a bike night before this is you best opportunity ever! It's an outdoor show and LOTS of people come and hang out even if they don't ride. Mark your calendars now and come help us make our debut @ QS&L an over-the-top success! We WILL see you there!

News: Monday, July 3rd, 2006, Columbus 4th of July Festival, Columbus, Wisconsin

The moment we've all been waiting for...the official start to our outdoor festival shows for 2006! As many of you who follow us know, we have had terrible luck with weather over the years when we play outside. I think we were all keeping an eye on the radar to see what was going to happen because some of our least favorite people, the meteorologists, were predicting thunderstorms for Monday. It looked ugly for a while and there were a few small sprinkles in Columbus, but the skies then cleared and we had great weather (albeit warm & humid) for the rest of the night!

There was a great crowd that showed up at Fireman's Park in Columbus! It took several trips to the beer vendor before people began dancing, but once they did, they continued all night. A pretty good contingency of regular LUBE supporters (you know, kind of like an athletic supporter, only with a band) followed us out-of-doors for this show. Jeff from B4 The Storm, 60% of Wicked Lily (Jenny, Katie, and Tammy), Kristen & family, Maria, Rowan & Missy, Pat & Mary, Dan & Jean, Ken & Lori, the Samsonites...and that's just a sampling.

We broke out two new songs at Columbus Fest. We created a rap medley (yes, you read that correctly) of It's Tricky by Run DMC and Wild Thing by Ton-Loc. Watching a couple of white breads like Buzz & Jeff rap was most entertaining! And due to popular demand, the teaser of Sad But True by Metallica has become the full-fledged thing. It lead to much drunken headbanging and closed out the show. Off the top of my head I think we have three new songs under construction, so look for them at Quaker Steak & Lube Wednesday, July 26 at Bike Night!

Thanks again to everyone who came out and for the good folks of Columbus for having us! It definitely was hot and sticky (a $20 fan was well worth the investment!) but we had a great time. Tuesday, July 4 we help celebrate our nation's independence by rocking the snot out of Pardeeville! We'll be in Chandler Park playing before AND after the fireworks (8:30 PM - 12:30 AM) and are sharing the bill with Cookee & Dennis and Wild Heart (a great band!). The festivities start early, so make sure you support all that is American on this great day and come eat, drink, and rock!

News: Saturday, June 10th, 2006, St. Luke's Festival, Plain, Wisconsin

Anyone who has followed LUBE for the past few years is aware that Mother Nature seems to take umbrage with us playing outdoor gigs. We've seen more than our share of rain and crappy weather. The forecast for Saturday started out good and got progressively worse the closer we got. I had said that if it did rain, that was an indication that the big man upstairs had it out for us, because after all, the show was for St. Luke's and the almighty would never rain on his own parade now, would he? The weather ended up being less than ideal, but we did experience some other means of divine intervention this night.

While waiting for 38 Acres to finish their set, we were convinced to play a round of Chicken Poop Bingo. No festival is complete without CPB! The game operates as follows: One chicken coop with a 10X10 numbered grid as it's floor, known as the Poop Pit. One chicken, ready to do his business on command, standing by. Once all the squares have been sold and the numbers drawn, said rooster is placed inside the cage and wherever the doodie falls determines the winner. And who would be the first winner...The Hermanator himself, Jeff! That was a fast $100!

A second display of divine intervention occurred when one of the Technobeams was nearly knocked off the stage during set up. This would have been a costly mistake! Fortunately my cat-like reflexes kicked in and I made a spectacular save. I should have been a goalie! Discretion prevents me from revealing the large-bunned band member was responsible for this near catastrophy.

The show itself went quite well! We had never played in Plain before, although AR3 in Arena isn't too far away. We behaved ourselves, didn't swear (thanks Buzz), and played PG-13 break music, all to the delight of the Plainians. A few songs were "resurrected" from the RIP and/or temporary hiatus list. We brought back Surrender, Kryptonite, Harder To Breathe, and Mama Don't Dance to make the show a little more family-friendly. As much as we hate to admit it, it was fun to play them again and see people dance and have a good time. It didn't get quite as cold as predicted but it was in the low-50s at best and the breeze was blowing steadily along with some scattered sprinkles. Nick's side of the stage was exposed to the wind and it was C-O-L-D! I don't know how he survived without mittens.

The end of the night brought us our last encounter with a miracle. Nick was helping Dan bring down one of the PA top speakers when he lost his footing and the speaker fell on top of him. Even though he is a geezer and went down awkwardly, he bounced right back up and wasn't hurt...nor was the speaker! 2 near-disastrous events narrowly avoided and one Chicken Poop Bingo winner showed that someone really was looking out for LUBE at St. Luke's!

We would like to thank Denise and everyone from St. Luke's who made this a very positive experience for us. Everyone was very easy to work with and made our jobs a lot easier. Thanks again and maybe we'll see you again next year!

News: Friday, June 2nd, 2006, Windsor Street Grille, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

Our debut was a smashing success, so we were excited to return to the Windsor Street Grille. Despite a few scattered showers during the afternoon, it was a beautiful evening and I thought maybe people would be camping or vacationing. Nope, you all came out to the LUBE show!

It was another near-capacity crowd and right from the start people were partying and dancing and carrying on...it was great! We helped several people celebrate various momentous occasions throughout the night. Maggie turned 26, and as per usual, was brought on stage and properly spanked by Buzz. Jessica graduated from college and as out partying with her friends. I think I did that once too, but my brain is sort of clogged with the remnants of fermented barley and hops and my synapses sometimes misfire, so I can't say for sure. And the biggest celebration of the night went to Brad and Judy who tied the proverbial knot and passed through with their wedding party. Congrats to everyone and thank you for choosing us to help you top off your big day!

We did not break out any new music at the Windsor Street Grille. The finishing touches are yet to be completed on the song we've been working on (time to bang your head!) but if all goes as planned it will makes it's "virgin" appearance at St. Luke's Fest in Plain on Saturday June 10th. It's a beer tent, a big party and it's closer than you think so come on out. We're planning on tearing it up and showing Plain how LUBE rocks and we need YOU to help us! It's going to be a beautiful night to be outside, and what better way to spend it than with LUBE? See you there!

News: Friday, May 5th, 2006, The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

Holy frijoles...Cinco de Mayo at the Bean! Just the thought of this show gave me goose bumps. I had visions of sombreros, tequila, mariachi music, drunken debauchery...the works. Lo and behold it all came to fruition!

The Bean practically transformed into a giant sardine can. There were a lot of people! For those of you who have never had the honor of being on a stage, the adrenaline rush we get from seeing hundreds of smiling, dancing people is absolutely the coolest feeling! We love the music to be sure, but connecting with you good people and having a killer party is what it is all about. For that we sincerely say "Thank you!"

All of our sets were introed with delightful and festive Mexican-styled tunes. It was Cinco de Mayo after all! We didn't have any new music for this week, but people seemed to dig our latest additions from last week. The look on your faces when you realize we are actually playing The Backstreet Boys is hilarious! Laugh if you want...all I have to say is that there were a lot of asses shaking when we cranked it out. This type of party wouldn't be complete without sombreros, and we looked smashingly good in them!

Speaking of smashing, Buzz had the honor of breaking a pinata filled with dum dums and official LUBE bottle opener keychains. He nearly met his match, however, as the vibrantly colored bull pinata was incredibly resilient despite the fact Buzz was hitting it with a very large stick. Several people in the front row nearly got crowned during the flailing but finally, after about 15 direct shots, the pinata broke into numerous pieces. The carnage was most dramatic! Everyone who saw it will readily agree that Buzz whacking his pinata in public was quite a spectacle.

Our production crew, as always, was awesome! Dan, Chad, Curt (with a C not a K), and Jeff made everything run smoothly and I had A LOT of people commenting on the sound and lights. These guys dedicate a ton of time and energy into making LUBE shows the "event" they have become.

Thanks again to all you wonderful people who came out. I happened to run into Tammy, Jenny, & Katie from Wicked Lily, Chris from Mighty Electric, Steve, Heidi, Joyce and Jim from Pink Houses, the Shocker Crew, Jeff, Rebecca, Siggy, and Steve from Wild Heart, Paul from Sand, Joe from Plan B, Todd, Daphne and friends (LUBE virgins maybe?), HD Girl & hubby, Jeremy & Jessi and their posse, a bunch of coworkers, and even WJJO's Smokin' Hot Sports Chick Mary Carol...and I hardly got to talk to anybody! So many people, so little time, you know? Call us and we'll do lunch sometime.

We're headed down to Lucky's in Barneveld tomorrow, followed by a much-anticipated return to the Windsor Street Grille Friday, June 2 and St. Luke's Fest in Plain on Saturday June 10. We look forward to seeing you there!

News: Friday, April 28th, 2006, AR3, Arena, Wisconsin

After a short lay-off, we packed our gear and headed west to AR3 in Arena. Wes, Chris, & Martina and their staff have always treated us well and were happy to have us again. That's good... we were happy to be back! To top things off, our favorite and lovable grunt Curt was there celebrating his birthday and doing his best to drink the bar out of booze. Fortunately for him Buzz did not bring him on stage for birthday spankings. Happy Birthday buddy!

The down time between gigs allowed us to work on some new material. LUBE is known for playing a wide variety of music and we continued that theme with the new songs. The enthusiastic crowd heard the debut of three tunes: Larger Than Life by The Backstreet Boys (hey, we rocked it up!), Drunker Than Me by Trent Tomlinson (we rocked this one up too!), and Symphony Of Destruction by Megadeth (you KNOW this one rocks!). Prior to playing Symphony, we gave a little intro teaser of Sad But True by Metallica which was VERY well received. I'm thinking this song may need to be fully worked up and incorporated into the set list. If you agree, send us a message through the contact page!

Our t-shirt supply went down again...7 total shirts left! Remember, whoever gets the last one will buy it for $1. We are in the planning and design phase of new swag items which we hope to have within a month or so. Thank you to everyone who has bought a shirt and helped support LUBE!

No lay off this week though. Next Friday LUBE is at The Bean... it's Cinco de Mayo (which would be May 5 to you & me)! It is going to be an over-the-top party at the Bean and you will absolutely hate yourself if you miss this show! Wearing your sombrero will get you a once-in-a-lifetime photo op with the band! The revelry doesn't stop there as Saturday May 6 we cruise down Hwy 151 to Lucky's in Barneveld. The shows at Lucky's are as wild as any we've ever seen and someone usually ends up experiencing odd gravity-induced clothing malfunction not dissimilar to what happened to Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl. This could be your chance at stardom, so don't miss it!

News: Saturday, April 8th, 2006, Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

Buzz and tonight's talented Gimme Gimme Girls, Katie and Jessica
What a great night for a gig! The Badgers won the Men's Ice Hockey National Championship by beating Boston College 2-1, capping a sweep for the UW hockey teams. The last time both the women's and men's teams from the same school won hockey titles was exactly never, so the victory by Bucky was truly historic. We too made history by having our best show to date at the Bowl.

There was a lot of red-and-white in the crowd and many familiar faces. Jessi, Jeremy, and Mira were up front all night for the 2nd consecutive show. I should apologize again for hitting Jessi right between the eyes with a pick. It wasn't intentional! Our last show at the Bean I threw one out and it landed in someone's drink. My aim is impeccable! Anyway, some of the peeps in attendance were Cowbell Courtney, Rowan, Bascom Hill Girl, Lisa, the Shocker Crew, Brian, Michael, Steve from Pink Houses, Katie, Jenny & Tammy from Wicked Lily, Rebecca from Wild Heart, my neighbor Shannon and some of her friends, Megan & Amber, Jim & Trista, Dr. McGowan and some other work cronies. And I cannot forget to mention that also in attendance was one of Madison's hottest musicians, Robert Bryan. He is in a couple of local bands (Bobby Bryan Band and the Rob Dz Experience) and is one bad-ass guitar-slinging dude. Watch the local listings and go check him out sometime!

As noted on the MadisonHotSpots.com Quick Shots Vidcast, the temperature at the Bowl tends to be warm. It is a good excuse to wear summery clothes and I did see a few people in shorts. There were also a lot of young ladies in little slinky things, which is the perfect attire for a show. We encourage it in fact! I would be remiss, however, if I didn't again mention all the incredibly cool people wearing LUBE shirts. You rule! Thank yous go out to those who bought shirts too as we are now almost sold out. I am making the executive decision that whoever gets the last one will buy it for $1.

Thanks to everyone at the Badger Bowl for all their hard work. I think drink sales were brisk! Dan & Chad did a superb job with the production as they always do. Chad had the crowd blinders totally dialed in! Jeff and Curt were there for us too taking pictures and doing grunt work. Curt stuck it out even though he was sick and even helped a young lady fix her car. Too bad he didn't score. We have a few weeks off to work on new material and catch our breath before returning to the stage at AR3 on Friday April 28, followed by the Bean on Friday May 5 and Lucky's in Barneveld Saturday May 6. The weather is warming up and so are the gigs...you need to be there!

News: Saturday, April 1st, 2006, The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

Daylight savings pulled a fast one and snuck up on us. Losing an hour of sleep following back-to-back gigs ought to be illegal, but that's what we were faced with. That and a little earlier start time, but it turned out to be a non-factor...the Bean was jumpin'!

Three of us have been fighting various maladies all week. Sound Guru Dan, Niiko, and your friendly neighborhood bass player have all been sniffling and sore-throating it for days. By the end of the night Friday Nick looked and sounded like doodie, and come Saturday at sound check it had gotten worse. His voice was something special, sort of like a hung-over Marge Simpson. Needless to say, there was no singing from his side of the stage, but he still lit up the fretboards of his trusty Wolfgangs like always. Dan and I weren't exactly 100% but we were in better shape than Nick was.

It probably sounds repetitive, but have fallen in love with the crowds we get at the Bean. You are some kick-ass wild and crazy people! Fun people like Jessi & Jeremy and friends and the Shocker Crew were up front ALL NIGHT! For those of you who have never had the pleasure of being on stage, you do NOT know what you are missing! It is not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. And as always, it was something like 146 degrees in there. There is just something about the smell of fog juice, ciggies, spilled drinks, and body sweat. Take one whiff of my basement and you'll know exactly where my gear has been!

We sold a bunch of t-shirts this weekend and we're sincerely flattered that so many of you buy them AND actually wear them out. It's more than just a drunken impulse buy! And trust me, you're never cooler than when you're wearing your LUBE shirt. Our current supply is drastically limited but I think there are new some things in the planning phase. If you have any ideas, please send us a message through the contact page and we'll take it under advisement. And if you have a LUBE shirt that you have modified to your personal tastes, send us a picture or better yet wear it to a show. We'd love to see it! We'll even put you on the website! I'd love for us to sell ALL of our shirts as soon as we can, so come out to the Badger Bowl this next Saturday (4/8) and get one before they are gone!

News: Friday, March 31st, 2006, Windsor Street Grille, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

There's an old saying that goes, "It's not what you know but who you know." I'd like to think most of us use a combination of the two, but in this particular instance we relied on the "who you know" quite heavily. The lovely and talented Carla, drummer for our good friends Wicked Lily, put us in contact with her friend Vicki at the Windsor Street Grille in Sun Prairie. They have just recently started having bands and after Carla put in a good word for us Vicki wanted us to play there. Generally they have been having bands on Saturdays only, however our calendar did not afford us that luxury. So with only Fridays available, Vicki and her staff worked things out so that LUBE could play the WSG. And play it we did!

There was a GREAT crowd on hand. Everywhere I looked it was a sea of people! There isn't much of a dancing area but that didn't stop people from getting their groove on. We had a little help from the Wicked Lily ladies and Heidi from Pink Houses on "You Can Leave Your Hat On," and they were joined by a large man named Dan who was sporting some perma-grin. It's amazing what a few (well, maybe quite a few) beers can make a guy do!

Three tunes made their debut at the WSG. We did "Bom Bom Bom" by Living Things, "You and Me" by Lifehouse, and "Better Life" by Keith Urban. Now there were some skeptics regarding us doing a country tune, but I have to say the response to "Better Life" was awesome! And there was a lot of swooning going on when Jeff did "You and Me." We practically needed a mop down in front of the stage...

Thanks again to Vicki and everyone at the WSG who made us feel very welcome and to everyone who came to the show! We hope to see you again! Extra thanks go out to Dan, Chad, Curt, and Jeff who were there WAY early setting up (2:00pm) and running power from the basement. Great work fellas!

News: Saturday, March 4th, 2006, Level 8, Evansville, Wisconsin

Coming off a nice show in Arena, we headed down Hwy 14 toward Evansville with a bit of uncertainty. The big question was "Do the people in Evansville like to party or not?" And frankly, we were a bit concerned. That concern, however, was all for naught because we were hit by a great crowd that clearly understood how to party!

Sara at Level 8 has been very good to us and was excited for the show. She knew of a large birthday party that would be in attendance in addition to the people that were steadily coming through the door. By show time things were looking good!

It turns out that there were two birthday celebrations happening Saturday. One was a long lost friend of ours, Theresa, and she was there celebrating a "milestone" birthday, shall we say. Buzz brought her on stage and administered the appropriate number of spankings to the delight of the people in her party. The other birthday that Sara had mentioned was for a guy who's name I didn't catch. No spankings for him but he did receive a "Happy Birthday Dude." Birthday girls who want to get spanked, or ANY girls who want to get spanked, Buzz is the one to talk to!

As always, Dan & Chad put on a great production. Level 8 is a BIG room with an enormous stage and the show looked and sounded amazing! Curt was there too not only doing the grunt work but getting his schwerve on with the ladies. Thanks to everyone who came out... the two birthday parties, Chaz & Steph, Mike, Eric, The Gimme Gimme Girls (Amy, Charlene, Anj, and Alisha), all the familiar faces I recognize but don't know, and all the virgins who were properly LUBE'd. See you again soon!

Our next show will be at a new club for us. Windsor Street Grille in Sun Prairie is having bands and we are scheduled to make our debut there Friday March 31. Come check it out and support them in their new endeavor! We'll follow that with an April Fool's Day gig at The Bean... and you know how The Bean shows go! Be there!

News: Friday, March 3rd, 2006, AR3, Arena, Wisconsin

Having been bestowed the honor of the being debut band on opening night at AR3 (back in January) was awesome. The area got hit with 6+ inches of snow that night, remember? Well, we were honored a second time by being invited back for AR3's official grand opening celebration. How cool is that?!? And top that off with a noise complaint generated during sound check! THAT, my friends, is rock and roll!

Wes, Chris, & Martina and all of their staff have been great to us and we were happy to return. This time there were no weather issues to deal with, and that made it much easier for not only us but the several hundred people who came to the show! The big room can be a little chilly during load in but as per usual, that didn't last long once the music started.

A few songs have been shuffled around in the set, a few have been delegated to every-once-in-a-while status, and two new ones were added. We've toyed with one of the song ideas forever and finally felt the timing was right. "East Bound and Down" by Jerry Reed delighted the crowd and got them two-stepping in no time! Some of you may remember this as the theme song from the movie, "Smokey & The Bandit". If you have never seen "Smokey & The Bandit," please don't tell us. We're not getting any younger and don't need you young pups rubbing it in our noses! Just relish in the glory that is a LUBE-ified country song. We also debuted a LUBE-remake version of Billy Joel's "Piano Man" that went over well.

One small bit of drama occurred during the 2nd set, however. The FNG had the battery in his monitor pack go out toward the end of the set. Trying to be slick, he ducked into the darkened area behind the stage to install a new one. Unfortunately for him in went in the wrong way and became stuck. Minor surgery was required to get him back up and running. While this break in the action was unscheduled, it allowed us to come back and play a super duper extended remix 3rd set! It was cool and kept the crowd moving right to the end.

Thanks to everyone who ventured out to AR3 for this show. The grand opening was grand indeed! Sam, Kari, Clown Boy, Animalien, Becca Rae, Tammy & the Derendinger clan, Dave, Matt & Kim, Maria & friend, Jim & wife (I keep forgetting!), The Shocker Crew (check out www.madisonhotspots.com) and everyone else... it's always a pleasure to see you! Thanks again to everyone at AR3 and Martina for the tasty on-stage shots straight from the tap. And if I heard correctly, we'll be back there on April 28. It's Curt's birthday that night so come on out and help him celebrate!

News: Friday, February 24th, 2006, Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

  • Today's category: Common links.
  • The $2000 clue is as follows: Turkeys on Thanksgiving day. Ducks. Stuffed peppers. Celebrities. Lube and several hundred people at the Bowl.
  • The answer in the form of a question: What are things that get roasted?
To the best of my knowledge, and the extent of that is highly debatable, Badger Bowl is a bowling alley/night club/banquet hall-type facility. Friday it changed. Once it was packed with hundreds of beautiful people and a smokin' rock band, it clearly became a sauna. In fact, it was so hot that several women felt it necessary to give their overheated bosoms some air! In a nutshell, this was a killer show!

Our first Badger Bowl show of 2006 was definitely a memorable one. We came out firing on all cylinders and the dancefloor quickly became a sea of gyrating bodies. The crowd was then treated to something very special. Local music legend and guitarist extraordinaire John Masino was in the house with his lovely and equally legendary wife Susan. Seizing a rare opportunity, we told Nick to go buy us a round of drinks and had John step in on lead guitar for a sizzling version of the Rolling Stones' classic "Honky Tonk Woman." Nick's Wolfgang now has scorch marks on it from John's killer solo. It was an honor to jam a tune with one of the best and most respected musicians you'll ever find anywhere. John is a class act, so be sure to check out his band Masino and their latest CD, "ESP."

We did have one new tune to unveil on this night. Some of you may recall a tune called "Boom, Boom, Boom" by Paul Lekakis. Utilizing Buzz's past experience, we created an arrangement that blended "Boom, Boom, Boom" into "You Spin Me Round", something he used to do when DJing back in his wild and crazy days at Sergio's and Flashbacks. The people were digging it and shaking their...you know...things. And later in the night during "Beverly Hills", the Gimme Gimme Girls had the best sense of timing to date! Whoopideedoo!

A whole host of local music dignitaries were on hand for this steamy, sweat-inducing show. Such people as the afore-mentioned John & Susan Masino; Chris & Dan from Mighty Electric; Chris from Restless; Bones, Bobby, and Brian from BoB Rocks; Katie, Jenny & Tammy from Wicked Lily; Dave from SuperTuesday; 36% of Pink Houses (Stevie B, Heidi Rae, Joyce, and & The Hitman); and Dave Cobb from Cobzweb. We also had a surprisingly large turnout of co-workers including Lori, Meagan, Tracy & Traci, Sweet Lou, Beverstick, Josh, Pam, The Myers', Jay and Chad. Lots of new faces, an ever-growing number of familiar faces (don't be a stranger Brian Henry!)... I'm getting verclempt with the emotion of it all!

Thank you to everyone who spent their Friday night getting all hot and sweaty with us! Oooh, that does sound naughty, doesn't it? That's the way it should be...this is rock and roll! LUBE will be back at it before you even catch your breath from last night's show. Friday March 3 we are returning to AR3 in Arena, an awesome new club you have to check out. We'll cap the weekend Saturday at Level 8 in Evansville, site of our NYE gig with Wicked Lily. Both of these places are just a short drive from the Mad Town, so please come join us and party away another weekend! What could possibly be more important?!?

News: January 28th, 2006, Lucky's, Barneveld, Wisconsin

To ask for consecutive days of gigs with good weather goes beyond the expectations of this band, and so gray, rainy, gloomy, foggy, and dark seemed natural following our killer show at The Dry Bean. Undaunted, your intrepid rock friends LUBE braved the elements and barnstormed Barneveld, bringing their wild and crazy music extravaganza to Lucky's. It had been quite some time since Carl and his staff opened their doors to us, and we were determined to give them a gonzo performance. Wow, I managed to fit an extremely large number of adjectives and clichés into this paragraph. I should have gone into tabloid journalism!

Initially we were a little worried though. It seemed as though the border patrol was blocking access to Iowa County or something. We were soon to learn that it is still fashionably chic to be a late arrival. The people that were there early, however, were some dancing maniacs! There were an ambitious few that were flailing all over the place during the first set. The two cousins were zany good fun! They must have called all of their friends to come down because by the 2nd set we were surrounded by a whole bunch of wild and crazy dancers. LUBE has had some very fun shows at Lucky's, and while this one contained less nudity than shows of the past, it was still a most excellent time!

Several birthdays were celebrated Saturday night, and these events always lead to fun. Carrie (or whatever spelling variation prevails...sorry) celebrated her 24th birthday with us. Buzz made sure she got her spankings, evenly distributing them between her left and right buns. A direct quote from Buzz indicated that Carrie's backside was "nice and firm." Bartender Denise was celebrating her 22nd birthday behind the bar. She was able to use that as her safety net to avoid Buzz's zealous spanking act. Nonetheless, we all shared in some Jagerbombs at the end of the night and Denise's birthday was at least properly toasted.

Next week we have a private party to play in Waukesha then follow it up on Feb. 24 with a return to the Mad City at Badger Bowl. We will have some new tunes in the hopper by then, so write it on your calendar, in PEN, and make sure you are there! Peace...out!

News: January 27th, 2006, The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

Well, what do you know?!? We actually had good weather the day of a show! Friday was a beautiful day both inside and out. We strolled into The Dry Bean with sense of anticipation and excitement we hadn't felt for a while. But once everything was in place, the jitters left and we tore some sh*t up!

DJ Joe G was on hand to spin some break tunes and looked resplendent in his new LUBE t-shirt. Speaking of shirts, our supply is dwindling faster than brain cells at a frat party. Until they are gone, all shirts will be sold for a measly $8! Get yours before they are gone! You'll get a pretty penny for them one day on eBay.

Dan and Chad had the production sounding and looking incredible. We heard multiple compliments throughout the night, and that's a tribute to the hard work of these guys. They had to work under tough conditions though. Their personal space was somewhat invaded by the HUGE crowd! But if you have to suffer any sort
of inconvenience, this is the way to do it! All the beautiful people were out and they totally got their groove on! Thanks to Jim (The Hit Man), Joyce and Heidi from Pink Houses, Scott from Heartbreaker and his wife Melyssa, Jeff and Rebecca from Wild Heart and Tammy, Jenny, and Katie (great pictures Katie!) from Wicked Lily for coming out, we really appreciate your support. The Gimme-Gimme Girls this week, well, they sort of struggled but certainly had the cuteness part down. If you don't know what a Gimme-Gimme Girl is, you need to come to a show and find out for yourself. If you are a girl and think you have what it takes to be a Gimme-Gimme Girl, you too need to come to a show and schmooze the lead singer. It could be your first step on the way to stardom!

Thanks again to everyone for a great show! We love playing The Dry Bean and Caroline and her staff always treat us like family. See you tomorrow at Lucky's!

News: January 20th, 2006, Arizona's Rock, Ride & 'Rcade
Grand Opening
Arena, Wisconsin

Ok. So LUBE was selected to be the debut band at the new Arizona's Rock, Ride, & 'Rcade (AR3) in Arena (site of the former Sandbar). This was a tremendous honor for us, destined to be a night of pure enjoyment, right? Well, Mother Nature, who's standing with us is on shaky ground at best, reared her ugly mug once again. A big LUBE show wouldn't be complete without bad weather and in my book, 5 inches of snow during the night meets the statutory requirements for bad weather. It took Steve and Jenny nearly 3.5 hours to get from Janesville to Arena! But weather be damned, the show must go on!

AR3 is a huge bar! They have 15,000 square feet of space for a variety of entertainment. For starters there is a very large band room that could probably hold 1,000 people and features its own bar. The main bar area has several different components to it. There is a good sized bar, an arcade area with a selection of the best video games, and another area specially designed around their very own mechanical bull! So...if you've been paying attention you'll have noticed how they came up with the name (Rock, Ride, and 'Rcade. Not sure how Arizona figures in here but that's alright).

Despite the lousy weather, a good crowd showed up to properly christen the bar. After some tours of duty on the bull people were primed for some killer rock and roll! Rock journalist legend Susan Masino (along with local music legend husband John) was in the house and served as emcee for the evening. I'm not sure if Susan had seen us before but rest assured she was properly LUBE'd by the end of the night! And though the band room had a definite chill to it early on when we arrived, by the end of the night it was hot and sticky! It felt good to step outside!

Thank you to everyone who trudged through the snow to celebrate the grand opening with us! You know who you are and please know that it is always appreciated. Special thanks to Dan, Penny, Kevin, and Brian for the free T-Shirts promoting their new venture MadisonHotSpots.com. We always appreciate you guys coming out. Special-special thanks to our Gimme-Gimme girls Rachel and Tracy (Tracy, I need a deal on Source 4 PARs. Call me. Ha ha.). Thank you to Chris, Martina, and Wes for granting us the privilege of breaking in their bar and to Susan Masino for her enthusiasm and kind words. We'll see you all again soon!

LUBE is back in Madison for the first time in 2006 this coming Friday, Jan. 27, at The Dry Bean. Oh my god, have these been good shows! You NEED to be there! We will follow that up by going back to see our good friend Carl (no, not Jeff) at Lucky's in Barneveld Saturday Jan. 28. Our previous shows there have been c-r-a-z-y! Don't miss it!
