News: New Year's Eve 2005, Level 8, Evansville, Wisconsin, with Wicked Lily

I can't explain the whys & hows of it, but we suddenly found ourselves at the end of 2005. We hooked ourselves up with a killer gig to end the year, the newly-named, currently-being-refurbished Level 8 in Evansville. To top things off, the lovely and talented ladies of Wicked Lily agreed to open for us...a match made in heaven!

Before I get recap this show, let's pause for a minute and reflect on 2005. LUBE played 30 shows (counting NYE) while celebrating our 6-year anniversary. If anyone knows of our work schedules, 30 gigs is a very respectable year! Here is a brief synopsis of how the year went:

  • Started the year with a corporate gig for AFLAC Insurance
  • New swag... more varieties of girly shirts
  • Played multiple festivals:
    • Darlington Canoefest
    • Pardeeville Firemen's Fest w/Toyboxx
    • Jefferson's 4th of July Celebration
    • Frienz Beach Party w/Road Trip and Mighty Electric
    • TC's Summer Bash w/Wicked Lily
  • Played 2 shows w/Catfight
  • Shared the stage a total of 3 times w/Wicked Lily
  • Did the CC Rider's Halloween Bash
  • Recorded a new demo
  • Dan bought more & better equipment, taking LUBE production to an unprecedented level
  • Oh yeah. We also added Jeff.

YEAH! We added Jeff! Who could forget the suspense of Operation: Code Name Carl, the whispering in the shadows, the incredible build up to the best show we have ever played! Friday September 23rd, 2005 at The Dry Bean was the first time we would have the pleasure of having Jeff as a band member, a move that has been nothing but a blessing for us. As excellent a musician and performer as he is, Jeff is an even better person, and for that we are all richer in ways money cannot buy.

With such a solid year under our belts, it was only fitting that we capped it off with yet another great show! Wicked Lily was awesome! They get better with each and every performance and are starting to play with the confidence and swagger of a badass rock band! They warmed up the crowd with an excellent set which featured Jenny breaking out her first lead solo. Angus would be proud!

CAN SOMEBODY GIVE ME A HAND WITH THIS!!?!
We followed with a full show which took us into the very wee hours of 2006. There was a new addition to our first set, a LUBE-esque take on Stevie Wonder's Superstitious. In between the first and second sets we christened the new year with champagne and party favors. In the second set we gave our some more new swag...LUBE bottle opener key chains! They were a smash hit! Maybe if you ask nicely (or do something wild & crazy) we can get one to you at the Bean Jan 27. There were several new additions to the production as well... Technobeams! Dan & Chad went to Michigan the day after Christmas to get them and in no time were making the stage show even better! Nice work on a very short time scale, guys! Sarah and her staff at Level 8 were awesome as usual. They put out quite a spread at Midnight and made sure everyone had their fill of champagne. By the time the final chord rang silent it was well after 3:00 AM. We're usually at breakfast by then! It was closing in on 5:00 AM by the time we pulled out of Evansville...a truly grand NYE party it was!

Were the lights bright? Yes. Yes they were.
A very sincere Thank You to everyone who took the time and energy to share in the gift of music with us this past year. Your support and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated, and we promise to make 2006 even better! The band would also like to once again thank our production crew; Dan, Chad, Kurt and Jeff. You cannot believe the amount of work they do for us, and their quality gear and expertise has them at the top of their game. The next time you attend a LUBE show, take the time to thank them for all that they do. Without them, the gig you see and hear would NOT be the same!

We just booked a new show for Friday, January 20th at AR3. This is the Grand Opening night of a new club in Arena just 25 miles from Madison down Highway 14. 15,000 square feet, 1,000 person capacity, it's a cool place. Come on out and check it out!

News: Saturday, December 3rd, 2005: Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

Call it global warming. Call it el nino. Whatever is going on, we're thinking of changing our band name to "F'ed by weather." Snow last weekend. Rain just about every time we play outside. What happened again today? More snow! We were thinking this would put a damper on the show, but I am happy to announce WE WERE WRONG!

Right off the bat we want to thank everyone who trudged through the snow and came to the show. It was a great crowd! The early birds saw the debut of "Beverly Hills." Jeff did the lead vocal and Buzz recruited the inaugural "Gimme Gimme" girl, the lovely and talented Jamie. She did a great job and was joined by her friends for the last chorus. Good fun all around!

Later in the night, following the Wicked Lily show at The Bean, WL bassist Heather and bandmates Jenny, Tammy & Carla came to the Bowl to further celebrate Heather's 28th birthday. In what is becoming a popular tradition, Buzz brought Heather up on stage and delivered 28 spankings. It's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it.

There were a lot of new faces in the crowd. Ashley, an intern I worked with this year, took in her first LUBE show and brought a big group of friends with her. We hope to see you again! We also saw some old friends including long-time local music legend Wade Otis, Maryellen, Jim & Crystal, Cowbell/Tambourine Courtney, Dana, Sebastian, Brian, Michael, Steve from Pink Houses, and Kim & Matt. Not only do Kim & Matt know where my home town of Port Edwards is, they have actually willingly gone there! They are my new best friends!

With 2005 coming to a rapid close, we feel it is only appropriate to end the year on a positive note. In conjunction with our good friends Wicked Lily, LUBE would like to formally invite you to the grandest of all New Year's Eve celebrations. This party will be at Level 8 (formerly Red Barn) in Evansville. Wicked Lily will start the live music at 9:00 PM followed by a full 3-set show from us. Before, in between, and after will be music provided by a DJ. Sarah and staff at Level 8 will have party favors, champagne and a free buffet at midnight, and the bar will be open until 6:00 AM! In looking at the other local venues, the cover charge at Level 8 will be among the lowest too. So...not only will this be the show of all shows on NYE, it can be had for a mere pittance! What an incredible bargain! Now you can spend more on Christmas presents for your favorite band!

Much thanks to Amber, Megan, and the staff at the Bowl, and thank you to everybody who made out it through the snow! See you at Level 8 to welcome in 2006!

News: Saturday, November 26th, 2005: Patches, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

With the tryptophan hangovers hopefully out of the way and deer hunting season winding down, we were back at Patches anticipating a good night. As 9:00 PM approached we noticed there were not many people in the bar and a sense of uneasiness started to fill the air. But as 9:00 PM actually arrived, the door started opening and people filed in, repeatedly, until the bar was full! It was a beautiful sight! There would be no lack of energy tonight!

The dancers needed a drink or two to get started but by halfway through the first set the dance floor was packed and remained that way the rest of the night. Everyone was in a good mood and there no hints of over-aggressive male bravado on display as far as I could tell. Buzz was in rare form and took full advantage of the support beam at the front of the stage to show off his unusual gymnastic maneuvers. T-shirt sales were as brisk as they have ever been too! We are now completely out of the pink and black shirts (destined to become collector's items) and have just one remaining on two other styles. Be sure to get yours soon as they are going fast, and when they are gone...we'll probably get different ones. Thanks to all of you who proudly sport our colors!

Thanks to Linda and the other staff who worked their tails off for the big crowd. We'd also like to thank Stacy, the cousin of Jenny from Wicked Lily, for coming out both nights this weekend! You rock! Our next show is this coming Saturday, December 3, at the Badger Bowl. This will mark our last Madison appearance for 2005, so don't miss it! We will likely be debuting two new songs at the Bowl. I Wonder if there will be any references to a place in California? Anyway, we look forward to seeing you there! Also, don't forget about New Year's Eve! Level 8 in Evansville! Evansville is practically in your back yard! A Wicked Lily and LUBE double-header! Ring in the new year the right way by partying with us!

News: Friday, November 25th, 2005: The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

We were back at our favorite place to play the night after Thanksgiving. History has shown that this can be a hit-or-miss night due to people traveling and spending time with their families, not to mention OD'ing on turkey. A fresh dose of wintery weather invaded our area on Friday, complete with bitterly cold temperatures and a fresh batch of snow. Travel conditions for most of the day were lousy and we saw innumerable accidents through the region on our way to The Dry Bean. Despite these apparent setbacks, there were a lot of people who fought their way through to the Bean and reminded us that the local music community is a great place to be!

It may have been cold outside but the several hundred dancing bodies sure made it warm inside! One new song invaded our set list, that being an unheralded GNR classic, a song that could even be classified as a love song of sorts. "I Used To Love Her" was very warmly received and gave Buzz and Jeff the opportunity to duet and pull off both of Axl's vocal tracks.

We made some new friends from as far away as Sioux Falls, SD and were graced by the presence of quite a few very familiar ones as well. Seeing faces we recognize in the crowd is a great feeling and something we don't take for granted. It was Dana's 31st birthday and she received 31 spankings on stage from Buzz. There were a bunch of local music scene "extended family" at the Bean as well. Jenny & Tammy from Wicked Lily (who are with us on NYE), Heidi, Steve, Jim & Joyce from Pink Houses, Chris from Mighty Electric, Jeff from theVibe, Dia from SuperTuesday, Mike (and fiancee Heather) from Emerson Drive, and local sound guy and former bassist for BoB Rocks Frank Fridono were there, just to name a few. You know, while all of the bands undoubtedly compete against each other every weekend, there is a sense of camaraderie and support there as well, and through this we have become each other's biggest cheerleaders. Thanks everyone!

As always, Dan & Chad had the production running beautifully. I had several people come up and comment on the quality of the job these guys do, and we are fortunate to have them. Thanks again to the great crew at the Bean...Mark, Beth, DJ Joe G, and all of the others I don't know the names of...yet. We won't be back at the Bean until next year, but the good thing for us is it's just around the corner!

News: Saturday, October 29th, 2005: Coliseum Bar, Madison, Wisconsin

This is a long one, so grab a cup of coffee and settle in...

It had been a couple of years since we played on Halloween(remember the pink nightmare @ Kitt's Korner?), and we had never before gigged at the Coliseum Bar. The CC Riders sought us out to play their legendary Halloween bash, and we just knew it was going to be an awesome night! We played upstairs in the banquet room which had been outfitted with some "killer" Halloween decor. And before I forget, we would like to take the time to thank a man named Otis for inventing the elevator.

MOMMY!
The band got into the "spirit" and sported costumes for the night. The basic theme of our costumes was simply scary and the various interpretations that word has. Our lead singer for the night was the good priest Father Mike Buzzell, and anyone who knows Buzz understands the why his costume was scary. Directly behind him on his groovy Pearl drum kit was the boogie master himself Steve "Funkenstein" Schroeder, nattily clad in orange crushed velour threads, a giant 'fro, some bling, and sunglasses Elvis would have envied. I must say it was rather strange watching a now 8 ft. tall disco-looking drummer pound out "Kill the King!" To the left of the good Father was Nick who was wearing a modified version of the costume he wore a few years ago, that being the freelance
gynecologist Dr. Howie Feltersnatch. To the best of my knowledge, no exams were performed at the bar, which is good because would YOU trust Nick to be your doctor?!? Jeff was on Fr. Buzz's immediate right and he had the most creative costume in the band. He spoofed the American Idol flunky/recording star William Hung (is it possible to spoof someone like that?) and went as Well-i-am Hung. Jeff had a great comb-over, American Idol credentials and a Dirk Diggler-like member, thus prompting the modification of his first name. It is unknown if that was "all Jeff" or if he sported a Marky Markish prosthetic appendage. I went as some sort of evil-looking grim reaper type scary guy, complete with face paint and flowing robes..."striking." I had to shave to properly paint my face and so I am currently clean shaven for the first time in over 5 years. It won't last long, regrowth is underway! Even our assistant grunt Kurt dressed as a doctor. Dan and Chad, however, had no costumes and so were dressed, as usual, as weenies.

There were some cool costumes at this party! There was the Butterfly Queen who came in on stilts and scarcely anything else, pirates, a group of dancing grannies, school girls...you name it. The CC Riders gave $200 to the 1st place costume, that being Captain Jack Sparrow and his wench. Shrink Wrap Girl took the $100 2nd place prize and Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne took home 3rd place and $50. The party was a lot of fun and included some eye-opening moments, if you know what I mean, in addition to a couple of the guys from the kick-ass band Nonpoint. Thanks again to the CC Riders for a great party and to WJJO's Ozz and Kurt who introduced us at the start of the show. Once again we concluded our night at Denny's with a tantalizing breakfast, no longer in costume but just as scary as ever. To anyone who has read this far, you are either a true fan or completely bored. At any rate you are now prepared to read "War and Peace."

Our next gig is slated for the night after Thanksgiving, Friday Nov. 25, at the Dry Bean. We had the greatest show of all time the last time we were there and we aim to do it again! Mark your calendars now! You know you will be sick of your out-of-town relatives with their bad manners and overbearing lilac perfume, and what better way to cure those blues than to come rock with LUBE?

News: Friday, October 28th, 2005: Frienz, Middleton, Wisconsin

For our pre-Halloween warm up we were back at Frienz. This was the site of our last show as a 4-piece before Jeff came aboard, so we were excited to bring the revamped line up back there and show the improvements we've made. Being the night before a collassaly huge party night we had some concerns about whether people would come out or stay home and rest up for Saturday. While Frienz wasn't overflowing with local music fans, we had a good crowd that brought plenty of enthusiasm and energy. We had dancers all night, and their positive energy was infectious!

Dan and Chad had the sound and lights absolutely dialed in and the show went very well. Unlike a previous engagement we had at Frienz, the fog machine did NOT stick on and totally fill the bar! We get lots of compliments on our sound and lights and the credit for that goes to these guys. They put a tremendous amount of time, energy, and cold, hard cash into making our shows as good as they can be.

We had one new song to debut. We have a knack for doing covers of covers, and this was no exception. Now being comfortably adjusted to his new LUBE groove, Jeff stepped up to the microphone and sang lead on the Goo Goo Dolls version of "Give A Little Bit" which was originally done by Supertramp. The masses swooned and the response was very favorable! Buzz is still going to be handling the bulk of the singing, but we will be gradually bringing in more songs that will feature Jeff on lead vox. You will have to come to more shows to find out which ones they are!

We followed the night up with what has become a regular visit to Denny's, who should become a corporate sponsor with all of the late night/early morning business we give them! Eventually we concluded our 24+ hour day and went home to rest for the big Halloween gig Saturday night.

News: Friday, October 21st, 2005: Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

This was our first show back at the Bowl since August 19th and our first Bowl show since the addition of Jeff (aka Carl) to the band. Our shows have been getting better and better and we were eager to bring these changes to the Bowl. Todd, Meagan, Amber, Tony, and the rest of the staff there have all been good to us and we wanted to wear them out by packing the house.

The end result was our best show to date at the Bowl! The great attendance was bolstered by a large contingency from the Mad City chapter of Adult Friend Finder. They probably had 50-60 people in their group, complete with placards detailing their fondness for the band (read into that what you will). The infamous "Shocker" clan was responsible for this group outing to our show, so we want to say "Thanks" to Dan & Penny, and all of their friends, for their enthusiasm and energy! We hope to see all of you at more shows!

In addition to the big group of LUBE er, ah... virgins, we had a bunch of familiar faces join us too. Lisa, Jamie, Tara Lou, Michael, Chaz & Stephanie, Josh from Cherry Pie, Tammy & Jenny from Wicked Lily, and 36% of Pink Houses(Heidi, Steve, Joyce, and The Hitman), just to name a few. I would love to give everyone props but my memory fails me more often than not. Suffice it to say we know you were there and we appreciate it! If you want to get a special shout out on the web site sometime, come talk to me and I'll see what I can do (I'm the guy with the flattop...).

LUBE T-shirts are dwindling in quantity and are going for the red-hot discount price of $10. Ten measley dollars! Be a part of the coolest cats in Madison and get your LUBE apparel before it's gone! You can do so this Halloween weekend at one of our two upcoming shows. FRIDAY Oct. 28 we are back at FRIENZ in Middleton. This is a great place to see a rock show and you need to practice for what will undoubtedly be a wild and crazy Saturday night. SATURDAY we are at the Coliseum Bar (formerly Jingles) playing the party hosted by the CC Riders. This party is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and legend has it that their parties are awesome! There will be great prizes for the costume contest and WJJO will be having a solid rock stop there as well. The band will even be sporting costumes, so come check it out!

News: Saturday, October 1st, 2005: Patches, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

After a 5th consecutive victory for the Badger football team, we hit the stage at Patches healthy and full of energy. We had great shows the previous weekend when Jeff made his debut and we wanted to keep the ball rolling. Phil and Patti have always been very hospitable to us, and tonight was no different. In fact, by the end of the night virtually the entire bar staff was sporting LUBE-wear!

Kathy & Kathy were the first ones to arrive and were pushing for us to start even before 9:00 PM. They, along with several others, had been partying prior to coming out and were properly tuned in right from the get-go. We met plenty of new faces that seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. We WILL see you at more shows in the future!

T-shirt sales were quite good. This was likely bolstered by the fact we ran a sale on them in light of our 6-year anniversary! We nearly forgot all about it! Oct. 1, 1999 LUBE debuted somewhere other than a basement and opened for the JC Band at Rox (now Shortyz) in Jefferson. I think we played every song we knew at the time, a grand total of 14. Some were pretty rough but we survived. Now that we are on our 3rd drummer and have added a second guitar(an early experiment or two with this failed and never saw the stage), the pieces have all fallen into place and LUBE finally feels complete.

The new look and sound of LUBE hits the stage again Friday Oct. 21 at the Badger Bowl. I know I say this all the time but...this show is going to be awesome! You need to be there! There will be more new songs, more energy, more excitement! The enchanting cool weather of fall is perfect for dancing under the hot lights, allowing you to strip off your outer layers and get down to the bare essentials, if you know what I mean. And I know you know what I mean. Now let's make it happen people! See you there!

News: Saturday, September 24th, 2005: Level 8, Evansville, Wisconsin

Following the unbelievable excitement of last night at the Bean we were headed down Hwy. 14 to Evansville. Our host for the night was Sara, owner of Level 8, which was formerly known as the Red Barn. We had played there just one time previously, back in February, I think, on an awful snowy night. It was a warm and muggy night inside and out but we were determined to turn the heat up even higher!

Now that Jeff had gotten his LUBE debut out of the way we could dispense with the niceties and treat him like an annoying little neighbor kid. We made him carry all of his own gear in and set it up. We made him do all the heavy lifting of the PA cabs. And whenever anyone was thirsty he was there with his wallet open. New guy, my ass! He was now a full-fledged member of the family and we abused him properly.

Okay, that was mostly a lie. The truism was that Jeff truly was one of the family now, a family that now feels complete. The show at the Bean took a lot out of us but that wasn't going to keep us from tearing it up again Saturday! Evansville had best be ready because we were going to set the table for New Year's Eve.

While the crowd at Level 8 wasn't as large as the night before, the people there brought the same enthusiasm and energy. There were a good number of dancers and we kept them busy all night. Some of our local fans Chaz & Stephanie and Ron & Bobbi came to the show as well as Wicked Katie and Mary who came down from MadTown. One thing I can't stress enough is the magic of the road trip.

Evansville is only 25 minutes from the Beltline, so it makes for a quick and easy getaway to see your favorite band. As I mentioned, we will be playing there again on NYE with Wicked Lily. This is going to be the best rock party ushering in 2006, so make your plans now, don't be a dork, and come join us at Level 8! Let's show them what kind of party a packed-house LUBE show can be!

Our next show is this coming Saturday, Oct.1 at Patches in Sun Prairie. We have had some awesome shows there and look forward to another one. It is an "intimate" venue which allows for lots on intermingling. Come on out and hang with us, take the opportunity to welcome Jeff aboard, and enjoy the new sound of LUBE!

News: Friday, September 23rd, 2005: The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

After enduring weeks and weeks of speculation, after hearing a never-ending litany of rumors, after many, many days of secret-keeping...the time had come. Project Code Name: Carl was brought to it's triumphant conclusion with a gig like we'd never played before.

We know some people knew what was happening behind the scenes for the past few months. Others remained clueless and curious, impatiently waiting for 9/23. Regardless of whether you knew or not, virtually all of Dane County showed up at the Bean this past Friday. It was packed! Eager anticipation was crackling in the air...it was finally here!

At approximately 9:40pm five men emerged from the lower level "dressing room." One was inconspicuously masked... "Carl". The volume of the conversation in the bar grew even louder. Oh my god it was happening! After a quick check of the guitars and a new intro, the band broke into "Harder to Breathe," yet the mysterious one remained masked. With the first chord of the chorus, Buzz ripped away the "mask" and allowed Jeff Hermans
to greet his first LUBE crowd. He was met with an approving roar of epic proportions! The Bean shook with energy, and we now know how the Beatles felt upon arriving in America. Many local music fans will note that Jeff is no stranger to the scene. He is a veteran musician well noted for his deft guitar work and excellent vocals. This cat knows how to rock and he brings an enthusiastic intensity and fresh sense of energy to the stage.

The capacity crowd kept the dance floor packed from the first beats of "Harder to Breathe" all the way through the final crash of "Higher Ground." The heat generated by all of the dancing, drinking, smiling, "I'm not Carl" sticker-wearing, having the time of my life bodies raised the temperature in the Bean to 236F. It was hot! The show was a huge success and we toasted Wicked Katie's 25th birthday in grand style!

We debuted three new tunes this evening as well:

  • No Surprise - Theory of a Deadman
  • When I'm Gone - No Address
  • No Matter What - Badfinger
  • I would love to be able to acknowledge everyone who came to the show but the night was a blur. Undoubtedly, yet unintentionally, I would forget someone. For that reason I won't even try to name names. There were lots of musicians from our fellow bands, many of our old friends, and a lot of new faces. Some of those people know Jeff and were in on the secret. Others were just curious or out for a good time. But WE had a blast, we hope YOU had a blast, and we want to see you again!

Suffice it to say that the bar has just been elevated and a new standard set. We are proud to share the stage with Jeff and appreciate the incredibly warm LUBE welcome afforded him by our fans. We have big plans in our future and want you there with us! Thanks again for a memorable night!

News: Friday, September 17th, 2005: Frienz, Middleton, Wisconsin

It was once again an honor to play with the Talented, Lovely ladies of Catfight. There was a pretty good crowd on hand to welcome them back to the area. It's been a few months since they've been around so people were chomping at the bit for a taste of the kitties. Dan, Dan the soundman (as Little Lisa calls him)did sound, and Chad was on lights.

Since the Badgers were playing a night game we decided to push the start time back a little bit so all of the people that watched the game elsewhere wouldn't miss any of the action. We started out the night and played about a 70 minute set to a very responsive crowd. This was also the last time we would be playing under the current lineup. Yes, the lineup will be changing. It's been a GREAT 6 years! The first 2 years with Al and Todd on drums, and currently with Steve pounding the skins. Find out what's in store for the future of LUBE at The Bean on Friday, September 23rd!

Once we were done it was time to turn the kitties loose. Good Golly Miss Molly didn't make the trip. She was on a much needed vacation after a grueling summer schedule. In Molly's absence, the newest kitty in the litter, Jammin' Gina (MEOWWWWWW!!!!!)took over front woman duties. Gina did an outstanding job! One of the highlights of the night was when we got up on stage with the girls and jammed "Are you gonna be My Girl". I guess we could have been called CATLUBE. The crowd was into it all the way until the end. There were many people celebrating birthdays including some Catfight fans that came up from Rockford for the show. A LOT of shots were consumed, and fun was had by all. The End.

News: Friday, August 19th, 2005: Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

The last show we played at Badger Bowl was at the end of May when I had my stupid blonde hair thanks to stupid Heidi, so we were looking forward to going back and seeing some of our old friends. It was hot and sticky outside and we strove to heat things up inside as well. I think we succeeded rather nicely!

The dancers took a little while to loosen up and get things moving but once they did, it never stopped! We fed off the energy from the dancers, they fed off our energy...a vicious circle that made for a very fun show! Mixed in with some of the long-time Badger Bowlians were a few fresh faces we had not seen before. Kara and her friend Magdalena danced all night, staying right through to the end, and we also got to help Alison celebrate her birthday. It was good fun and we enjoyed meeting all of you! We hope to see you out again soon!

The next LUBE gig is Saturday September 17th. We're playing an opening set for our friends in Catfight, a kick-ass all-chick band from the Chicago area. This will be at Frienz in Middleton, and we hit the stage at 8:45pm. Note the early start and don't be late!

Following that we're at the Dry Bean on Friday September 23, and the mystery of Operation Code Name: Carl will be revealed!

Changes are coming in LUBE! What is Operation Code Name: Carl? Well, that for now is TOP SECRET! Suffice it to say that LUBE is undergoing a transformation of sorts, kind of like Jame Gumb (ed. comment: Who? Yeah, me too. Check here or here or here.) but without the murders and transexuality. The rumor mill has come up with all kinds of wonderful ideas...

    Buzz is leaving

    Dia is joining

    Jen is joining

    We're changing formats
    and going country

    Nick is joining the priesthood
...LOTS of different things! Any one or all could be true. Or none of them could be true. But in an effort to become a better band, there is a change afoot, and that change will debut at the Bean on September 23rd. If ever there was a LUBE show you absolutely cannot miss, this is it! We're your friends, we wouldn't lie to you! Just trust me when I say this will be our biggest and best show in the almost 6-year history of LUBE! I'll even give you a hint: Trace Elliot. Figured it out? I didn't think so. You'll just have to come to the Dry Bean and find out for yourself!

News: Saturday, August 13th, 2005: TC's Summer Bash, Waterloo, Wisconsin

What would an outdoor LUBE gig be without bad weather?!? As history has shown, whenever we play outside it seems to rain. Or at least threaten to. Well, not only did it threaten but it DID rain on Saturday! Fortunately it stopped in plenty of time for the show to go off without a hitch. The Miller Girls and Captain Morgan Tattoo Girls did all they could to get the crowd properly "seasoned" for the events of the evening. Drinks, accessories, and airbrushed tattoos were abundant as the good people of TC's got their party on!

The beautiful and talented ladies of Wicked Lily hit the stage shortly after 5:00pm and totally rocked! It had been a while since they last played out and they used their time effectively to learn some killer new tunes. The crowd was totally digging it and screamed for "one more song!" Well, the Lilies obliged and blew everyone away with "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park. Too cool! If you ever have the opportunity to see Wicked Lily, be sure to take full advantage of it!

The skies clouded over once again but the rain held off for us. We played three full sets under blissfully cool conditions. By the end it was cold enough we could see our breath when singing but the hardcore peeps at TC's didn't miss a beat! Knowing that TC's likes to rock hard, we knocked the dust off a few of our RIP tunes and brought them back to life. "Lit Up" by Buckcherry, "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" by Van Halen, and the Warrant cover of "Train, Train" were well received and sounded fresh again after some well-deserved rest.

LUBE is back at it this next Friday August 19 @ Badger Bowl. We've had some awesome shows at the Bowl, so don't be a wiener and come out and join us! It's going to kick ass!

News: Saturday, July 30th, 2005: Benefit for the 32nd MP Family Readiness Group, McFarland, Wisconsin

For almost 6 years now, many, many people have come to local venues to show their support for LUBE. We've never taken this for granted and are appreciative of our fans. One of our good friends Lori came to us about playing a benefit show to raise money for the 32nd Military Police Family Readiness Group. All of us have had family and friends, neighbors and co-workers, who have served in the armed services. We decided that this was a great opportunity to give back to some of the people who have supported us over the years.

Park Ponderosa Ballroom in McFarland was nice enough to donate their facility to host the show. That along with the fact that we were donating our services meant that every dollar paid at the door went directly to the FRG! Park Ponderosa certainly isn't used to hosting bands like us but they were very hospitable and in the end invited us back! Not only did some of the soldiers of the 32nd MP Unit and their families come out, but a good number of the LUBE faithful did as well. We had a great energetic crowd that danced all night! Channel 15 News was also on site doing a story on the event and gave us a little air time. Thank you!

During a set break I talked a bit with my friend Ken, a soldier in the 32nd. He wanted to thank us for donating our time and energy to help raise money for the FRG. I told Ken that he shouldn't be the one thanking us. WE should be the ones thanking him and everyone in the armed forces who work incredibly hard to keep America the greatest place in the world to live! It may sound cliche but if you love your freedom, thank a soldier. Playing this show was our way of saying thanks.

The next show on the docket is one NOBODY should miss! It is a double-header gig on Saturday August 13 with all-chick band Wicked Lily! It's going to be an all afternoon/evening affair at TC's in Marshall that actually starts at about 2:00pm. Wicked Lily plays at 5:00pm, LUBE from 7:00-11:00pm. Come out early, bring some sunscreen and a lawn chair, and be ready to rock!

News: Saturday, July 23rd, 2005: Frienz Summer Beach Party 2005, Middleton, Wisconsin

Frienz Beach Fest Part II: The Sequel

Anyone who attended Frienz Fest last year knows that the debut event was a great time. We closed out the show last year on a very nice but rather cool evening. This year the goal was to take things up a couple of notches. With a line up of Road Trip, Mighty Electric, and LUBE, you just knew this show was going to kick ass!

With the stormy weather having already worked its way through Middleton, Road Trip started things off in the big tent on the volleyball courts. They played from about 5:30-8:30pm and once again showed why they are regarded as one of the preeminent bands in the area. RT has great stage presence and energy to go along with their musicianship. They set the bar high for the other bands, and I think everyone responded accordingly!

Our good friends in Mighty Electric followed Road Trip outside, and by now there was a substantial crowd in attendance. ME has a wide variety of material in their set lists which features both Jen and Chris(how can you not like a guy with a blueburst G&L?) on lead vocals. They too brought a lot of energy to the stage and it didn't take long for the sand to start flying on the "dance floor!" As always, they brought their A-game and worked the crowd into a "Frienzy." ME had to shut it down at 11:30pm, setting the stage for us to close out this year's bash inside the bar.

Once the final chords rang out in the tent the crowd beat feet into the bar to take in all that is LUBE. With a sea of bodies in front of us we unleashed a little drop-D goodness and opened with "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting." Despite a full evening of dancing and other antics under the big top, the crowd showed they had more than enough energy to raise the inside temp to sweltering levels! Sweat-slickened bodies were flailing all over the place dancing, jamming, and headbanging right along with us, and it was a damn good time! Even though we were only supposed to play until 1:30am, the good people at Frienz let us keep going until 2:00am because the bar was still packed with people. Dripping with sweat, the faithful made their way to their cars knowing that the three bands they saw more than delivered on their promise of an awesome show! A hearty thank you goes out to the staff at Frienz for once again putting on a great beach party!

Don't forget that next week we are playing a benefit gig for the 32nd Military Police Company Family Support Group at Park Ponderosa in McFarland on July 30th. Undoubtedly we all know of someone who has served their country here in the US or overseas. Please come out to this show rock hard with LUBE, as this is our way of saying "Thank You" to all of the men and women in the armed forces.

News: Friday, July 22nd, 2005: Patches, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

With a warm and sticky weekend forecast staring us in the face, it was with great pleasure that we returned to Patches. Our previous show there in February was killer and we were looking for a repeat performance. The bar was blissfully air-conditioned but we knew it would be a hot one before the night was over! So with multiple fans strategically placed around the stage we set out to warm things up a bit.

Summer does not generally lend itself to big crowds at bars. The fine patrons of Patches dispelled that myth! We were treated to a very fun and enthusiastic collection of rock fans. We saw lots of new faces that night including some of Nick's friends from Bike Night. Thanks for joining us!

Despite the fact that no one likes practicing indoors during the summer, we haven't stopped working on new material. In an effort to appeal to our headbanger side, and to our many fans who also like it "hard and fast," we broke out "Kill the King" by Megadeth. Apparently there were some metal heads in the bar because the response was incredible! Hmmm... maybe we'll have to consider some more heavy stuff in the future.

Thanks again to everyone who came out. We'll see you again October 1st!

News: Sunday, July 3rd, 2005: Jefferson 4th of July Celebration, Jefferson, Wisconsin

With a nervous eye to the sky we strolled into Jefferson looking for a little redemption from Ma Nature. She gave us the shaft last year in Jefferson at this event, a miserable day full of rain, and so this year we wanted a some payback. There is an old adage that says, "Ask and ye shall receive." We asked for good weather, and we received!

Jefferson again held their 4th of July festivities at the Fairgrounds. There was bingo, games for the kids, and of course, plenty of food and beverage. Our duty was to play from 7-11:00pm with a break for fireworks. Because there was no rain this year, when we started at 7:00pm there was already a nice crowd assembled. The rock and roll was flowing, there was some dancing, lots of toe tapping and head bobbing, and then things went in a whole new direction!
Three bus loads of students from Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills, fresh off of a band competition in St. Louis, arrived for the fireworks early into our second set. The show went from a laid-back family event to a full blown sweat-flying, rib cracking, jump around like a fool rock concert!
The kids from Lakeside were nutty! They rushed to the stage and jammed hard with their new friends in LUBE! We witnessed a first on this night, again courtesy of our Lakeside crew, in that this was the debut of body passing at a LUBE show! Ah, to be young again...

After a very nice display of fireworks, we were informed that the Lakeside kids were going to be allowed to stay until 10:30pm. Buzz announced this to the crowd and they responded with even more enthusiasm than they had earlier! Buzz worked his magic with the young ladies and there were smiles aplenty in the front row.
We passed out beads and picks and stickers, and everyone really had a great time. Once the kids left however, the show was hardly over! Many of our good friends stayed right to the end...Kari, Samantha, Amber, Megan, and Scott (I know who you are!), Katie, Jenny, Tammy, and Heather from Wicked Lily (Get well soon Heather!), Melissa, Scott, and Doug from Heartbreaker, the Buzzells, the Hanushewiczs, the Schroeders, the Birks, Lori & Ken, Dan & Jean...I could go on and on.

Thank yous go out to Janet for inviting us back after last years rain and to the nice folks who took good care of us once again in Jefferson. A special shout out one more time to band kids from Lakeside Lutheran. We had a great time with you! This Christmas ask for a Les Paul instead of a trombone so that we can come see YOU on the rock stage in a few years, OK?

We have three shows yet this month...Patches July 22, the Frienz Beach Party July 23 (with Road Trip and Mighty Electric!), and we close out the month July 30 at the Park Ponderosa in McFarland. This will be a benefit show to raise money in support of the 32nd Military Police Company Family Support Group. LUBE is donating every single dollar that is paid at the door, so please come out to show your appreciation to our soldiers and their families..and also to rock with LUBE!

News: Saturday, July 2nd, 2005: Pardeeville Firemen's 4th of July Celebration, Pardeeville, Wisconsin

The date: Saturday July 2. The scene: Chandler Park, Pardeeville. The event: Pardeeville Firemen's Fest. The result: ROCK!

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day! The skies were clear, the heat and humidity were far from overbearing, so the setting was ideal for a great night. The day started with the band Toyboxx out of Green Bay. They played from 4:30-8:30pm and let Pardeeville know it was going to be a full night of rock and roll! Those cats can play, so if you ever have the opportunity to see them, do it.

A most excellent cookout chez Buzzell had us properly fueled for the long night ahead of us. Sound was provided by AJ Thundersound, and Ben and Andy took good care of us and were very pleasant to work with. Dan and Chad were also on site running lights for us and providing our in-ear monitors. Once you get used to them it's hard to go back! Once levels were set, we went straight to it and unloaded all that is LUBE upon the good people of Pardeeville, and they responded accordingly! We had lots of dancers and made contact with many new people. By then end of the night, the air had cooled off considerably but it was still hot in the band shelter! The crowd stayed right to the end and rocked with us. We closed the show with a new song, "Higher Ground" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Stevie Wonder), and it went over smashingly!

It turned out that we did not have anyone taking pictures at this show so I don't know that there will be any. Buzz may have taken a few from the stage during the show, so those might be posted. You will just have to trust us that the events described above are accurate and true! Tomorrow night...Jefferson!

News: Friday, June 17th, 2005: The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

All the pictures for this show are finally up! Check them out on the Pictures page.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, LUBE fans worldwide...if you missed the show at The Bean, YOU MISSED IT!

Despite the fact that it's summer, despite the fact that it was a great day to be outside, despite the fact there was a big beer tent in Cottage Grove, despite all the things that make a person not want to go to a bar on a Friday night in the summer time, we had a smokin' show! I don't know that we expected such a killer crowd but it turned out to be a sweet party! It was wall-to-wall with sweaty, dancing bodies. The cocktails flowed, inhibitions went out the window, and a great time was had by all.

    Heather and Mike
It was a big night for just us, but also for Heather and Mike. Not only did they get to take in a LUBE show but Heather celebrated her 21st birthday AND got engaged all in the same night! Congratulations to Heather and Mike! By the way, Mike is a fellow musician, he's the drummer for Emerson Drive. Check them out!

There were a TON of familiar faces at the Bean! Musicians! Rock fans! Hotties of all varieties! It was a who's who of the cool people, that's for sure. Local music dignitaries included Dia from SuperTuesday, Chris and Jason from Mighty Electric, Heidi, Joyce, and the Hitman from Pink Houses, Jenny, Tammy, Katie, and Heather from Wicked Lily, Mike from Pine, Bones from BoB Rocks, Mike from Emerson Drive, Steve and Doug from Heartbreaker, Jason from Sonic Rush, and Q106's very own Tammy Lee. Can you imagine the jam session that could result from this bunch all being in the same room together? If you are looking for something to do on a weekend and LUBE isn't playing, go see these bands! Then come back and see us again when we play.

Now, just because all the "band" people were mentioned first doesn't mean they are more important than all of our "non-band" friends! Our network of friends is ever-expanding and we are very appreciative of that. We meet more good people at our shows than I can even begin to remember. This isn't necessarily a comprehensive list and it is still quite extensive. I just think that you, our fans, deserve all the recognition we can muster...so here goes: Jeff from WIBands, Dan Dan the Shocker Man, Penny Shocker, Kevin Shocker, Woody, Troy, Josh, Tammy & Kirk, Kelly, Mandy & Jess (LUBE virgin), Jenny, Emily (LV) & Mike, Jessica, Joel, Matt, Shannon & Jeremy, Cowbell Courtney, Kim & Shelby, Lindsay & James (LVs), Betsy, Shan Shan, Kennylingus, Charlie, Dana & Sharon, Cindy & Julie, Jennifer from Oklahoma (LV), Dana, Hotdog & Chris, Nikki, Traci & Traci, Bill & Wendy, Kari, TJ, Connie & Juju, SeaBass...this list is practically endless! And as always, a big thanks to Caroline, Ryan, Sid, Al, Beth (wink), and all the staff at The Dry Bean for taking good care of us once again.

A sincere thank you goes out to Steve & Doug from Heartbreaker who ran sound and lights for us. They had the fastest tear down time in recorded history! We'd also like to thank Chad for bringing the monitors as it would have been an interesting show without them! And let's have a round of applause for our regular sound engineer/aural optimizer Dan who came straight to the Bean after flying in from Amsterdam. That, my friends, is dedication!

LUBE has a couple of weeks off before we hit a few shows in early July. We are in Pardeeville on Saturday July 2 and in Jefferson on Sunday July 3, all part of their various 4th of July festivities. I personally think it would a good thing if everyone avoided the hassle of Rhythm & Booms and came to see us instead! It's your patriotic duty! We then might be taking a day of rest and relaxation and heading to this big lakefront event in Milwaukee you may have heard of. I think a band called Seether is playing. If you see us there, feel free to buy us some beer.

See you in a few weeks, rock fans! Bartho

News: Friday, June 10th, 2005: Canoe Fest, Darlington, Wisconsin

Darlington, Wisconsin, USA...Home of Canoe Fest. It was here that we had our latest show, the always popular beer tent event. A warm and sticky night set the table for what turned out to be a most excellent time! Can you say humidity boys and girls? For those of you who are unfamiliar, here is what Dictionary.com says about "humidity":

         hu-mid-i-ty
         n.
1.. Dampness, especially of the air.

"Dampness, especially of the air." Hmm. Interesting. Anyone who was present can attest that there certainly was dampness in the air. Couple that with beastly heat (my truck said 90 when I arrived), it made for rather swampy conditions ideal for chafing.. With an undaunted determination, however, the band and Darlingtonians persevered because as they say, "The show must go on."

The folks in Darlington treated us like rock stars! Not only were food and beverages provided for us, but we had our own AIR-CONDITIONED dressing room. OK, it was a camper with Yogi Bear stickers on it, but it was delightfully cool and well stocked! Anything and everything we needed was made available to us, which is the exception rather than the rule. After the crowning of the Canoe Fest Princess, resplendent in a lovely blue gown, the rest of the night was dedicated to rock!

Now, it wouldn't be a true LUBE outdoor festival if the weather didn't get ugly at some point. The skies darkened and threatened considerable nastiness. Mother Nature was her usual self and showered SW Wisconsin with rain during our first set. Our tented accommodations were more than adequate to keep us, our gear, and everyone in attendance pleasantly dry. In fact, the rain may have helped bring in some additional people looking for shelter, and once they were in they stayed and drank and danced all night! After the rain shower, more and more people kept arriving in greater numbers. Despite the still ominous conditions, the tent filled up with beer drinkers and rock revelers who came out to shake their groove thang!
A very fun and likable crowd kept us entertained all night and we met a lot of nice people. Jeff, Nikki, Sarah, Sheila, TJ, Kari, Samantha, Chaz & Stephanie, and Sonya & Gene were just some of the faithful who once again followed us out of town.

Thanks to all of you who made the trip and a big THANK YOU to everyone in Darlington who helped make it a great night! We hope to see you again next year if not sooner!

News: Saturday May 28, 2005: Badger Bowl, Madison, Wisconsin

Greetings again, my friends! It is with great pleasure that I bring you the sordid tale of our latest gig this past Saturday at the Badger Bowl. None of the names have been changed so that the deserving can receive their kudos and mad props.

We had a kick ass crowd! Maybe it was because the weather wasn't nearly as crappy as all the meteorologists thought it would be, but all of the local crazies seemed to end up at the Bowl, much to our delight. For the first 20 minutes people got their drink on. Once everyone was thoroughly saturated with wiggle fluid, they never stopped dancing! The inventive and alluring dance moves were rewarded with what is likely to become a tradition at LUBE gigs: dance contests with free LUBE T-shirts for the winners! That's right people, LUBE is going to be giving away T-shirts to those people displaying their best Denny Terrio impersonations! I would like to publicly congratulate Katie (F) and Blaze (M) for being the inaugural victors! This is a tradition that is only going to grow bigger and better, and it behooves you to bring your A-game to any/all LUBE shows.

There was one new song making it's debut on this particular night, that being "Holiday" by Green Day. This song generated a very positive review from those in attendance, and we certainly appreciate the feedback. If you have any song ideas you would like to see us entertain and maybe add to our set list, go to the Contact page and send us an e-mail. Certainly there are no guarantees, but your ideas and opinions matter and will receive our attention.

There were many familiar faces mixed in with quite a few newbies Saturday night. Dia from SuperTuesday was in attendance and sang Take It Off with us. Thanks Dia! Such long-time friends as Bill, Wendy, Kari & TJ, Big Dog, Brian & Michael, Connie, Juli (Juju), Sara, Sara, and Scott (a big shout out to the M&H crew!), Kelly & her sister, Animalien, Jessica, Gordy, Mental Erin, Tara Lou, Betsy, Sonya & Gene, Pink Heidi, and ALL of the Wicked Lilies (Jenny, Carla, Katie, Heather, and Tammy) graced us with their presence! Thank you for taking time out of your busy holiday weekend to come rock with us! And for those of you I have inadvertently overlooked...let's just say I consumed enough Stolichnaya over the weekend that I can now speak fluent Russian. Many brain cells were sacrificed to the fire water and undoubtedly there was some residual damage. What was I just talking about?

Anyway...if you are looking for a little road trip, strap yourself in and head to Darlington on Friday June 10. We are playing outside at Canoe Fest and from what I hear it is one gigantous party! We have never before played in Darlington and it would be way cool to take some of our troops with us! Show time is 9:30pm. The sun will be setting, the air fresh and clean, beer will flow like wine(name that movie), and the opposite sex will find you irresistible...but only if you come to Canoe Fest! Don't miss it!

News: Saturday May 21, 2005: The Return to Lucky's, Barneveld, Wisconsin

Our debut gig a few months ago at Lucky's was an eye-opening experience. The crowd was nothing short of wild and we saw uninhibited debauchery unlike anything we had seen since probably Sir Buck's in Monroe years before. Well, our good friends in Barneveld proved to us that the first time was NOT a fluke! The craziness was rampant...GOG action! Liberal exposure! Extremely small personal space barriers! Mix that with awesome rock music and you have the makings of an excellent show!

Despite skies that threatened rain all afternoon and evening, there was a nice turnout. In addition to many faces we had not seen before, a host of regular LUBIES were in attendance. Stefanie, Heidi, Leah, Kari, Samantha, Rhonda, and Hot Dog and her sister were just some of the ladies we have been privileged enough to know from past shows. Clownboy, an unexpected visitor on this night, paid us a visit as well. He is a member of Sonic Rush for those of you who may not know him.
Jenny and Tammy from Wicked Lily also came out. Be sure to check out WL! They kick ass! We also finally got to meet Dan the Shocker Man who was there with his wife. As you can guess, his favorite hand sign is the "shocker." If you don't know what the shocker is, it is two in the ...well, perhaps we shouldn't go there. A little research on the net and you can glean that knowledge for yourself. And we can't forget to mention that Bill and Wendy were once again in the crowd for our show. They have come to be some of our staunchest supporters and have traveled far and wide to see LUBE shows. They have battled some recent health issues and we are pleased to report they are back on their feet and doing well! It was nice to see you again.

There were a few "firsts" on this night. As far as I can remember, we have never had the Plexiglas drum shield virtually knocked over by two sets of naked boobies. Now, we certainly would hate to see any damage done to the shield or Steve's drums, but if it ever has to occur, it might as well happen that way. Also, we debuted "Jessie's Girl," much to the delight of Nick and the ladies at Lucky's. Lastly, we had BRAND NEW GIRLY LUBE SHIRTS delivered to us this week and they were made available for the first time Saturday night! There are red, black, and pink jerseys in addition to blue ring T-shirts...most cool! These shirts will be available at all of our upcoming shows and undoubtedly will go as fast as the last batch did. Be sure to check out the swag board and get one while you can! Looking cool was never so easy...

That's about it for this past week. Lucky's and Barneveld were excellent hosts to us once again and we'd like to thank Carl and his crew for taking good care of us. We've made some good friends there and they make sure we are paying attention, if you know what I mean! Don't forget LUBE is at the BADGER BOWL this Saturday night (May 28) for a Memorial Weekend blowout! This is going to be a great show! Don't miss it!

News: April 23rd, 2005, The Back Bar, Janesville, Wisconsin

Fresh off a killer show at the Bean, we hit the interstate and headed to Janesville. It had been a long time since we were in town for a show (Wildlife Preserve maybe?) and we were eager to greet the rock-friendly Janesvillians!

The Back Bar has a great set up! The stage is clearly the focus, and it's elevated position allows the band to see everyone in the bar. We were fortunate to have Fish running the in-house sound for us. Previously we had worked with him at the now-defunct Club Raven. His partner-in-crime for the evening was Animal, and he gave us a sweet light show.

While the Back Bar has traditionally been a hard rock venue, they were quite receptive to the wide variety of music we laid on them. As usual we were treated to some fine dance maneuvers! But what makes the Back Bar special is the go-go cage right on the stage! Not only were there many ladies showing us their stuff in there but Buzz and Nick got their schwerve on in the cage too! What happens in the cage stays in the cage! Lots of beads were handed out as well, although they weren't necessarily earned in the traditional manner (bummer). We might have to be more strict next time!

By the end it turned out to be a good night! We made some new friends, sold some cool LUBE swag, and had an all-around positive experience at BoB and Diane's The Back Bar. And a special thank you goes out to the DJ who played "Black Diamond" just before we started the 3rd set!

We have a bit of a break before our next show. Next up is Lucky's in Barneveld on Saturday May 21 (I double-dog dare you to be crazier than last time!) followed by one of our favorites, Badger Bowl on Saturday May 28. That will be a great way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend! Come out and rock!

News: April 22nd, 2005, The Dry Bean, Madison, Wisconsin

Hello friends, and welcome to this installment of LUBE News. I am Andy, your bass-playing host, sitting in for Buzz who has the night off.

Despite the chill in the air, it turned out to be a hot night inside The Dry Bean. After an early load-in and set-up there was some time to kill, and the LUBE boys were treated to a fine meal prepared by the staff at the Bean. This was followed by a Starbucks desert for Andy and Dan, two coffee junkies who needed their fix to get them through the night.

Once properly juiced on caffeine, it was time for the bacchanalia to begin! A very large and enthusiastic crowd was on hand, and their energy was transferred to the band, resulting in a powerful, fun-filled performance! There were dancers aplenty displaying a wide variety of both modern and traditional dancing styles. Tammy, Katie, Jenny, and Heather from Wicked Lily, along with Heidi from Pink Houses, joined the band on stage for a rousing rendition of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" (a staple of many "adult" establishments). And once again, a multitude of young ladies jumped on stage for the show-ending "Girls, Girls, Girls." Rock and roll reverie in it's truest form!

This guy is either flashing "The Shocker" or is a member of the 4th Street Brothers. Either way, wipe off that pinky just to be safe buddy.
There were plenty of new faces in the crowd to go along with our old friends and fellow "people on the scene." Original LUBE drummer Al was part of the Bean's staff for the night, and it was nice to see him again. Some of the local musicians in the house were as mentioned earlier Tammy, Jenny, Heather, and Katie from Wicked Lily, Heidi and Steve from Pink Houses, Jason and Jen from Mighty Electric, and Bobby from BoB Rocks. Long-time LUBIES Dana and Sharon, Jeff P., the DeChambeau girls, Michael, and Big Dog & his work cohorts are just some of the many faithful who repeatedly grace us with their presence. And let's not forget to tip our cap to Mother nature for pelting us with late April snow during the load-out. Always a pleasure...

That's the recap for Friday, the 22nd day of April, 2005. Tune in next time for "Tales from Janesville: The Back Bar."

News: April 15th, 2005, Shortyz, Jefferson, Wisconsin

Greetings from the deep end! Buzz has opted to take a break from writing the news and has passed his journalistic duties to me, the lowly bass player Andy. While far from being a master of prose, I pledge to give you fine readers a recap of our latest gig at Shortyz in Jefferson.

If you weren't there...you missed a most splendid night of rock and roll debauchery! It was with our great pleasure that the newest, hottest all-chick band Wicked Lily was able to kick off the show! They played an intense 7-song set and clearly got the night off to a good start. "The Lilies" as I like to call them played tunes from artists such as Pink, The Donnas, Republica, and KISS. How cool is it to have chicks doing Lick It Up?!? It made some of us sort of randy, if you know what I mean. Plus Jason from Sonic Rush was there as part of his WI Bands Tour and he was introduced to the ladies. Yet another picture for his rapidly growing collection!

With the crowd still astir from the ass-whopping Wicked Lily gave them, we took the stage about 10:00pm and knocked out three powerhouse sets. We have always enjoyed our gigs at Shortyz (and Rox before that) and tonight was no exception! Everyone seemed to be benefiting from the $2 beers (self included) and we were treated to some most excellent dancing. Light guru-Chad's sister Kim should have been a Solid Gold dancer! The warm day made for some sweaty conditions, but that is what rock and roll is all about! Beer and sweat and rock chicks! It was a good night...thanks to Heidi and Steve from Pink Houses and everyone else who made the trip to Jefferson! And as always, Dan and Chad made excellent use of their home-made ramp and had everyone sounding and looking great.

Our next musical offering will take place at the long-time Madison hot spot The Dry Bean this coming Friday (04/22/05) followed by our debut at BoB and Diane's The Back Bar Saturday (04/23/05) in Janesville. Rumor has it that LUBE's original drummer Alfredo will be in the house at the Bean. A family reunion! And to all of the Janesvillian friends we haven't seen in a while, come to the Back Bar! It will be just like old times...

Until next time... may all your strings be slinky.

News: March 26th, 2005, Frienz, Middleton, Wisconsin

Boy it was a case of Deja Vu. We were just at Frienz the week before with Catfight. This time however, we were there for a full show. Can't think of anything out of the ordinary that happened other than the fog machine getting stuck at the end of the second set making visibility at zero for awhile. Fortunately it was at the end of the set so we didn't have any catastrophes while on stage.

Dan and Chad were on Sound and Lights. Unfortunately there weren't many pictures taken due to a camera malfunction from a camera that needs to be thrown against the wall.

We did debut a couple songs:

  • Let's Go - The Cars
  • You Can Leave Your Hat On - Joe Cocker/Tom Jones
  • We have a few weeks off before our next show on Friday April 15th at Shortyz. Shortyz is a Great place to play. On Friday April 22nd, we will be at The Dry Bean. On Saturday April 23rd we are in Janesville at The Back Bar for our first time. See you soon.

    News: March 19th, 2005, Lucky's, Barneveld, Wisconsin

This was our first time at Lucky's. Nice place in the heart of "downtown" Barneveld. Pretty decent crowd on hand, some pretty wild dancing going on! There was a surprise Birthday party for our good buddy TJ. TJ had NO clue about it, and it was quite obvious. Anyway, TJ got to go home with the girl of his dreams. He also received several gifts to help enhance his special night with his date. Not sure if he remembered much though...

Dan and Chad were on sound and lights. Thanks to Lindsay for taking pictures.

Frank and Trent Fridono formerly of Bob Rocks were there. It was great to see those guys. Trent has a new band in the works that will be playing out sometime in the near future.

We had a great time! Lucky's is a nice place to play. We'll be back on Saturday, May 21st. Come on out!

News: March 18th, 2005, Frienz, Middleton, Wisconsin
    with Catfight!

What a great night! The weather absolutely sucked but the crowd was awesome! Despite heavy snowfall and treacherous roads I think people are just sick of winter and said "Screw it, I'm going!" We can't thank all of you enough! There were a lot of regulars, many LUBE virgins, and many people that came to see Catfight. And why wouldn't they? These Cat's (get it) KICK ASS!

We started off the night at 9pm and did an hour set. After a very smooth and quick changeover, Catfight took the stage to a pumped up crowd. They played two long sets that took it up to bartime. The crowd held up and was still strong until the end.

Dan was the man on sound, Chad on lights. A big thanks to Jenny and Jeff for helping with the changeover. Also, Jeff took some mighty fine pictures, check 'em out on the Picture page.

Musicians in attendance: Chris, Jason, and Jen from Mighty Electric, Dave and Dia from SuperTuesday, Bobby and Bones from BoB Rocks, Steve from Pink Houses, Dave from Cobzweb, and Jenny, Katie, and Tammy from Wicked Lily. There may be some people I'm leaving out but I'm not sure, sorry.

Do yourself a favor and check out Catfight when you get a chance. You won't be disappointed! They'll be back in Madison at The Annex on Friday, April 8th. We're off that night so you know where we'll be!

We'll be back at Frienz this Saturday Night March 26th for a full show. Stop out.

News: February 19th, 2005, Red Barn, Evansville, Wisconsin

The Red Barn, another first time place for us. The Red Barn is just what it is. A big barn sized place that has been around for years. I believe they used to have those good ole' Hee Haw type hoedowns in there. Since the current proprietor Sarah has taken over, they have added Rock Bands to their entertainment repertoire. They also plan on making a few cosmetic changes to the place as well. Including doing some work on the very high ceiling to help alleviate some of the "boominess" that affects very large venues like The Red Barn.

Dan was on Sound. Chad was feeling a little under the weather so Jenny filled in admirably on lights. Also, a big thanks to Tammy and Katie for helping out with the teardown at the end of the night. Jenny, Tammy, and Katie, all members of Wicked Lily, were our Roadies for the night, so they got first hand training at the wonders of tearing down and loading up at the end of the night. Things that most people don't think about when they go see a band. The nights not done for us once the musics over.

Other than the Wicked Lily girls, Kal and Jim from Crush were there. Thanks to the staff at Red Barn as well as all the people that came out despite the snow storm that was going on outside. By the way, It was a fun drive home.

Our next show will be on Friday March 18th at Frienz in Middleton. We will be sharing the bill with the lovely ladies of Catfight. Catfight is a Bitchin' All female band from the Chicago area. This is a show you won't want to miss. These girls know how to bring it! (notice my not-so-cool attempt at being hip) This show has an earlier than usual start time so make sure you get out there early as it will fill up fast. We kick the night off at 8:45, followed by Catfight. The following night, March 19th we will be at Lucky's in Barneveld (another first). The following Saturday, March 26th, we will be back at Frienz for a full show. See you on March 18th.

News: February 18th, 2005, Patches, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

    "Blue Steel"
This was our first time at Patches. This is a place that really isn't very far out of Sun Prairie but yet it can be difficult to find if you've never been there before. A few people we spoke with got lost trying to find it. Never-the-less, once you know how to get there it's easy to find. It was a pretty good crowd that partied hard through the end of the night. Phil and the rest of his staff were great and very accomodating.

Dan and Chad were on sound and lights. A big thanks to Jeff Powers for getting there early and lending a hand setting up. Jeff also got some great pictures! Check them out on the picture page.

    Zowie!
Musicians on hand included: Chris, Jason, and Tom (former drummer) of Mighty Electric. Katie, Jenny, and Tammy from Wicked Lily. Scott from Heartbreaker, Steve from Pink Houses, Jeff formerly of SuperTuesday, Rick from One Ton Banana, and Mike K. from his yet unamed new music project.

There were a lot of wild shenanigans taking place including some very naughty acts taking place on the dance floor. Not that there's anything wrong with that! It was nice to see some people that we haven't seen in awhile as well as many new faces. Thanks for coming out!

Hopefully we'll make it back to Patches in the future!

News: February 11th, 2005, Shortyz, Jefferson, Wisconsin

Since this is being written almost 2 weeks later, I'm not sure how much I'll remember but here goes. Shortyz was formerly called ROX Sports Bar. The new owners Tony and Todd have taken over and are making an effort to bring this venue back to being a hot spot like it was years ago when it was called The Pink Cadillac. They have a good start! First off this place is HUGE! We played here a couple times a few years ago when it was called ROX and it never seemed to have much going for it other than the size of the room and size of the stage. One thing they did was slashed the prices of the drinks. Where else can you get bottles of beer for only $2? You can at Shortyz.

Dan and Chad were on Sound and Lights. Jeff was there to take pictures. Thanks guys. Kerry was there with her friends celebrating her "29th" birthday.

Musicians in the crowd included: The girls from Wicked Lily; Heather, Jenny, Karla, Katie, and Tammy. Chris, Guy, Tara, and Chris from Buzz Toyz, Jim from BoB Rocks, J.J. and John from TheVibe, and Doug from Heartbreaker who once again wowed the crowd with his rendition of Hate Everything About You.

We had a good time... Other than that I don't remember much else. Make sure you get out to Shortyz to check it out. It's a great place! We will be back at Shortyz on Friday April 15th so come on out!
